does anyone know how these compare to the Bose companion 5? I am well aware of Bose being shit, but I have no white response curve for either set to base my opinion off of.

rthompI'm not sure the comments section allows a long enough answer. Suffice to say BOSE are inferior overpriced ill designed products lacking full frequency range reproduction while also offering shoddy construction and purposely specced high failure rate electronics. If that all sounds good don't bother with the companion 5 and invest in one of their high end systems instead.
The M10 have fixed unshielded speaker cables whereas a slightly more expensive connection to allow you to replace them would be greatly beneficial. The mini-sub is also somewhat limited by the internal crossover cutting it off well above the basement (42Hz) and the bass dial being located on the rear panel. While on the subject of the sub, front and rear ports allow some flexibility but performance comes from 2' or more of breathing room on both ends. All three speakers also lack protection over the cones. For the price they work very well as multimedia speakers with the musical side leaning heavily towards classical over more discordant attempts involving computers or destruction. They are way better than other computer speakers but pale in comparison to a full separately amplified system.
