Can someone explain to me some of the differences between these and the Kanto YU5? https://www.massdrop.com/buy/kanto-yu5-speaker-system/talk
Do those not have a built-in sub? Still new to this audiophile stuff, thanks for any advice!

tod_cliftonI'm also new but ya the Kantos don't have a sub but they are overall better speakers
BlazeFaceThe M50W bass system allows the satellites to be better optimized for mids and treble, and the M50W uses the better-sounding chipset amplifiers. Alloy dome tweeters too.

tod_cliftonOne of the biggest differences is the range of input sources available on the YU5's. They include two toslink optical inputs, a set of RCA's, and they are AptX bluetooth enabled. The M50W is limited to a single 3.5mm input. I bought a set of YU5's from a prior drop here on MD, and ran them from my PC soundcard with the 3.5mm cable. I upgraded to an inexpensive DAC soon after (I'd been wanting to off-board the audio from my PC for a long time) and use the RCA inputs now. The DAC made a very audible, very nice difference in the overall sound quality. I pulled a Boston Acoustics 8" sub out of storage and the system sounds amazing now.
I really can't recommend ditching the included audio source from your PC highly enough. It turns out that the environment inside a PC or laptop, with all the electric fan motors, heat, and magnetic interference, is very hostile to audio reproduction. As soon as you can pick up an off board DAC. Run a simple USB cable from PC to DAC, it's plug & play, no drivers needed. Your PC will recognize it within a minute or two of hooking it up. For me the difference in sound quality was a huge surprise and worth many times the small additional cost.

crossJust FYI, you *can* get RCA to 3.5mm cables, so it's perfectly possible to run these from a DAC.
