UPDATE TIME: This drop has cycled on and off a few times by now and each time it does, I check back to read the comments (and to see what's cooking). The conclusion I've come to is that there are a lot of people out there who don't quite get what these pans are for, or how to use them. And further, that after all the years cast iron has been around, there are still a zillion misconceptions surrounding its use and care! How can this be? Don't people watch cooking programs on TV? Don't people watch Youtube videos? Let me first say, these pans are great; I purchase one many months back and think it's one of the smarter things I've bought on MD (yes, I've bought dumb MD things too)! My concern is that other than mine, most of the comments regarding these little gems are not exactly confidence inspiring. I'm convinced the problem is not with the product, but more with the users ("user-error"--it's not just for computers). To clear things up, I've posted my prosecution and defense of this product on the review page. If you're on the fence about buying one of these, I'd suggest giving it a read. If you're absolutely clueless about how to use these pans (or cast iron cookware in general), then I INSIST you read it ;- )

I hate to disparage a product, I certainly don't do it often on Massdrop, but as a fan of cast iron, I have to say something here. I would not recommend anyone get a grill pan. The whole point of it is aesthetics, getting grill marks so it looks like you've grilled something when you haven't. It means that the parts of the meat that are touching the pan get caramelized, but the bits in between are basically boiling in water that gets trapped in the spaces between the ridges. It is better to have a flat pan that will caramelize (brown) the entire surface of the meat rather than 50% of it, sacrificing flavour for aesthetics. I'm not alone, check out reddit's /r/castiron, they are not fans either. It is also more difficult to clean and less versatile than a flat pan.

RayFUpdate: got mine today 7/23/18 and it looks and feels very, very nice. Finish is perfect, inside and out--great handles, deep red color looks supper--and the things weighs a ton (perfect for your self-defense needs as well). Can't wait to try it out.

This pan seems to be made in China. Not worth the extra price.

db999If everything that was made in China suddenly disappeared, you'd likely be sitting on the floor, butt naked! Everything comes from China; get over it!

DinoJoe"Pretty good price" and "made in Switzerland" in the same sentence makes a lot of sense to you? NO, they're made in the Peoples Republic of Pretty Good Prices, you know--freak'n China!!!
There is no lid included with these pans. I removed from the included section but missed the line in the copy, so I apologize for any confusion here. I just updated the copy as well.

Can someone confirm that a lid is indeed included? It is mentioned in the description, but nowhere else, and not pictured.

Actually, now showing at $90 but does not show that a cover is included. I don't say a cover wouldn't be handy, but I've been using mine for a few weeks now without one, and have no complaints about it--its' a great pan/grill!
