Simply cannot image how I am supposed to use this? Am I supposed to write with the aluminum cap on? What a disastrous design.

yguoRegardless whether a $800 pen qualifies for a "collectible" (maybe yes from its number of production), that doesn't justifies a terrible anti-functional design of it. Even admitting it is a collector's pen, it is a pen first before it can be collected. Pelikan, montblanc and many other prestigious manufacturers sell way more expensive pens that can be collected, and easily used.
