Mike_WII don’t understand why you are comparing a Corsair plastic keyboard to this??

Mike_WIseems like an inappropriate attempt to sell corsair keyboards to me. Do you work for Amazon or Corsair?

Jino74No I don't. I'm typing on one now. I seem to have struck a nerve. I have actually purchased a keyboard from Massdrop. Just seems expensive for a shell case.

Mike_WIOnce you start getting into the 'niche' market of mechanical keyboards, everything seems just a bit too pricey. But the Tada68 is one of the most affordable programmable 65% keyboards on the market. and $80 dollars to give it a bit of an upgrade is pretty worth in my opinion, especially when the grand total of case + keyboard comes out to under $200 (which is the average price of a 'custom' keyboard). It's all about economy of scale. Corsair's board is mass produced with inferior keycaps, and the need of a driver to access a large chunk of it's functionality pretty annoying, for me at least. And on top of all of that, it's a full sized keyboard, which in my opinion, is worth LESS to me than a smaller keyboard, because of ergonomic preference.
That being said, if you don't own a Tada68, I'd recommend buying it directly from the vendor. On kbdfans, a fully built Tada68 costs $99, $161 with the aluminum case, putting the difference at $62. For myself, I'll most likely be picking up one of these from the drop, but for first timers - buy the bundle.

xpewpewThanks. I was actually looking at it in case my son wanted to build a keyboard. He is currently working on building a gaming computer (Minty Pi) out of an Altoids case.

Mike_WIThat sounds pretty fun!
Building your own keyboard is a slippery slope. It starts off with a kit like the Tada68 - then you evolve into something like a Clueboard. Next you're building an Ergodox with Zealios switches, and before you know it, you're harvesting switches off a HHKB for ANOTHER keyboard you're building.
So for someone like me, who's well and far down the rabbit hole, 99 dollars for a case really isn't a big deal. But to an entry level consumer, I totally get where you're coming from. :)
