Ill admit I am a bit ignorant when it comes to mechanical keyboards. I recently got one....then another. What are the advantages of these keycaps what makes them different from the normal abs caps?

Conman21They look better. Some people prefer the feel of PBT over ABS, and very few factory boards come with PBT key caps.
@ideus I haven't ruled on anyone's preference and would never presume to. But I can tell that this issue is being blown way out of proportion, and by many users who've never tried it for themselves but only read about it (on Reddit). Also, it's entirely possible Tai-Hao changed their formula or process for the coatings after Miami based on consumer feedback. A lot of the feedback appears to be from Miami users. I have personally used a later Tai-Hao set with the coating and it's not an issue. YMMV...

Conman21They provide a different texture, a bit of a softer plastic is how I would put it? They are not perfectly smooth, there's a very fine matte finish to the keycaps, as opposed to the completely smooth stock keycaps. At least that's my experience with the difference between my stock Das/Filco/Ducky (ABS) keycaps and my Topre/NPKC PBT (PBT) keycaps.

DataI got you; however, it is really hard to understand the logic of the manufacturer that appears to insist in pushing a "feature" into the market, that most keyboard aficionados have not asked for, nor want to get it. It is just against any basic logic, don't you think?

ideusAgreed, it is a very unusual feature. Anti-microbial coatings are usually reserved for the healthcare industry, but they are not buying enthusiast keycaps. It would make more sense to offer them without the coating for Western markets.

ideusIt is probably an economies of scale issue. It sounds like lots of customers in Asia, their primary market, want the anti-bacterial properties. So we do not offer enough units moved to change their manufacturing techniques.
I have a BumbleBee set and so far, the coating is a non-issue. I like the PBT feel, and appreciate the lower price than many other keycap sets.
