Can you use this as an audio interface recording directly to your computer through USB?

JdjungNope. It's a standalone recorder. The usb interface just for transfer files.
P.S You can also power the recorder via usb if you don't use batteries

JdjungI believe Zoom is a wrong choice. I own the Tascam, great recorder built quality and sound quality altogether

TimewalkerIt may have been, but the Zoom H6 is in a different category then this specific Tascam. The equivalent Tascam mic would be the DR 100mkii or mkiii. The Zoom H6 is a 6 channel audio recorder that comes with a X Y pattern mic and a central left/right mic. It has interchangeable mic heads and four, multi volt up to 48 volt phantom power inputs which are very clean. I say they can hold their own with my studio MOTU Track 16 inputs. It has an internal 6 channel mixer. It also can act as an audio interface for macs, windows and my travel set up which is an Ipad and/or laptop. I can use my condenser microphones as well as my dynamic mics and plug my synths directly into this. Also when acting as an audio interface it is also a headphone amplifier. It easily pushes my Hifiman 4XX and my Beyerdynamic 250 ohm 990 Pros while my Ipad just needs a bit more more power. It also has a separate adjustable line out, which I can attach to external monitors. The Zoom H6 is the swiss army knife of the audio recording world.

JdjungOh and as a hot tip, if you buy the Toshiba Flash Air card, you can pull the files from the Zoom H6 directly to your laptop, android or iPad device through WiFi! I love the Toshiba Flash Air cards!

JdjungGood feedback, thank you I definitely learnt something, thank you! I referred to the Zoom H1 (solely) as I have used a friend's H1 and it somewhat wasn't of good built quality (plastic bending etc.).
To clarify: I use my Tascam for recording of DJ sets into the line in from my Allen & Heath mixer. The only problem is that the Tascam is too sensitive via the line in from the dedicated record out of the mixer (-8db and up, easy to clip), so I need to have a gain control on my mixer to record at -20db and then normalize the recording. This is basically my workflow.

JdjungIt uses micro SD cards, though. I don't think there's a micro SD version of the Toshiba Flashair cards, is there?

qElijahqNo the Zooms use standard SD cards. I've already tested the SD cards on my Zoom recorders. I don't know about the Tascam though. I've heard good things about both!

TimewalkerI agree with you the Tascams build quality are amazing! I like the fact though that I can plug the H1 into my laptop and use the line in as a two channel audio interface. In an emergency or extreme portability option it acts as both a USB mic and audio interface where I can plug in an instrument or even a dynamic mic and record into my DAW.

Jdjungexcept I have read of people that have dropouts and other mysterious problems, so I purchased the Tascam DR-680 - less convenient, yet worth it for the quality and lack of problems.
