I'm picking up a pair of Elac B5s for vinyl/desktop in small room. Does anyone have any thoughts on how this would pair against an Onkyo A-9010? At a fifty dollar difference, I prefer this form factor, but have little expertise with regards to the audio quality. Just getting into audio, so any help is greatly appreciated!

NewspaperThe Onkyo makes way more sense for the DAC alone. This is the business Onkyo is in and theirs is a much better integrated amp. TEAC has some good products but they are kind of all over the map. Onkyo is much more focused on this sort of thing. This isn't exactly a great deal on the TEAC after tax and shipping anyway.

NewspaperYes both have DAC's. Onkyo's is better and definitely better phono which you want for Vinyl. Also is you can swing the Elac B6 do that for better base and power. Especially for vinyl since you probably won't use a sub?

darwinIf he's mostly going to use it for vinyl, which is already an analog format, the difference in DACs won't really affect him at all. Also it's not that the DAC in this unit is utter garbage, so it'd be fine for some desktop use here and there. The biggest factor would be if he wants to spend extra $ on an external phono pre-amp vs the built-in one for the onkyo. I think the form factor is enough to sway someone from a full receiver to this unit for a mostly dedicated vinyl setup.
