Same issue as the others. Received mine and I already enjoy it quite a lot, but the middle ring is pitted and the friction between it at the steel ball is noticeably loud. Doesn't really bother me, but it's sure to make those in close proximity of me rather annoyed. I expected a bit of noise, since it's two chunks of metal magnetically attracted to each other, but I think the noise is exasperated by the pitted surface of the magnetic disc the stainless steel ball makes contact with.
That said, I like it a lot and the blue raspberry finish is gorgeous. I'm also really impressed with the strength of the magnetism between the disc and the ball. You really don't have to worry about the ball flying off in random directions. I don't regret the purchase at all... just a bit disappointed. I saw TEC left a support address in a comment below, so I think I'll reach out and see what can be done, but I thought I'd leave my two cents here.

Right. I'm not challenging the properties of magnetism. I'm merely stating the magnetic disc was less smooth than the product pictures advertised on the drop page, and I think that's causing a bit more noise than expected. It's two pieces of metal rubbing against each other at a high rate of speed... I expected friction :)
Not trying to be overly critical though. It's a nicely constructed little thing and I'm already addicted to it. My wife wants one now and likes to steal mine.

mjthompsoI see what you mean now I inspected mine when I received it and it seemed smooth but when I spin it around its feels coarse. (I got the blueberry one) When I follow the middle layer with my nail I feel the roughness. So I believe it is either on purpose or defective. When it spins on top or below it doesn't have that issue. They have a green one available on their site for a limited time if you sign up for their newsletter. I might pick that up as well. It is really nice and the quality is top notch.
The only purpose I see (which I have noticed) is that you can "feel" where the ball is at any given time when it spins around. Where if it was smooth you wouldn't be able to detect that. I'm not sure if that is part of the design though or a side effect.

mjthompsoWhen I received mine I saw it was rough when spinning but unsure if it is on purpose. It is nice to know where the ball is at any given point which it allows you to detect from the roughness. But I'm wondering if it was supposed to be smooth and if this is a defect?

mjthompsoSo... while waiting around for a reply from TEC I found a fix for the issue where it seems "rough" to spin. I bought a 2nd one in another color after the drop was delivered. I was comparing the two and what I found was I could spin the two spinners as a spinner if that makes sense. Removed the ball bearings and just used one spinner to spin the other.
The side effect of this was that it made them both smoother. My blueberry one is no longer rough. I'm not sure if they were designed to do that or if the color will wear off but I will just keep doing it to smooth it out until I get it how I like then use them as intended.
So buy a 2nd one and spin them around magnetically attached and it will be a lot smoother with the ball bearing rotating. I'm not sure of a cheaper way around it but I wanted to buy another after I got this one since I liked it so much.
