To be fair, I have not used this particular product.
I would think that if you do use a larger split ring on the gated clip to carry your keys, there would be little chance of back clipping.
If you play a mental game and imagine a split ring the size of the basketball hooked on the clip, you can imagine it would not back clip since the far side is too far out to flip back onto the gate to open it. So I'd imagine a split ring that's wide enough to clear the gate when flipped back on itself would not pose a problem.
If, however, you imagine a small ring like that on a key, you can see how it can flip back against the gate and open it. Especially with the leverage the key blade provides.
Again, to be fair, this product looks like it's designed to carry a bunch of keys on a split ring, so I imagine there would be no problem.
The product I had trouble with had individual clips for each key. AND was designed to be carried in the pocket. So therein lies the problem. That one was ill conceived. My recommendation is to never put individual keys on a non-locking spring gated carabiner to avoid the back clipping issue.
Yes, you would think that everything would just fall into your pocket. I did find keys loose in my pocket a few times, but at other times the keys were missing entirely. And I found one of my mini scan tags on the ground next to my car the day after I noticed them gone from my chain. The whole bunch of 5 had detached themselves and somehow had ended up on the ground, and it looked like passers by had helped themselves to the more valuable ones. So, no, they didn't always end up loose in the pocket.
I don't want to criticize this product because it looks like there would be no problem if used with a larger split ring and hung on the belt, not placed in the pocket (Plus I've never had any experience with it).
Just want to give a warning against putting individual keys on a non-locking spring gated mini carabiner. That will sooner or later result in lost keys.
