Yeah I don't really think claiming $2,500 MSRP is fair. Before production stopped (2010) I know used ones were going for $600-$700 each depending on condition. New weren't that much more ($800? $900?) as they were known to last forever if you treated them well.
After production the price has continued to rise as the supply of new-in-box decks dwindles, but that doesn't mean you can claim any MSRP you want.

This is comical. I mean the drop is good but the MSRP is obscene.

Damn I bought mine new 30 years ago for a touch over $300! Still have them and they are as strong as ever.

It was quite a few months ago. I read that there were two being released in 2016.

DeleteAs I understand it, they are coming out with a new turntable design, not simply restarting production of the SL1200. So far it has only been shown as a non-working prototype layout with no tonearm. Visually does not bear much resemblance to the SL1200 series. And no word on just how much it's going to set you back (my guess is well north of $1800).

There is a petition drive to get Panasonic to bring back the original, which has garnered 27K+ signatures, but so far no commitment from Panasonic.
