polymethThe drop description says that a Rubber feet set is included, but not pictured.
@Chinguin did you just miss this, or are 'Acrylic feet' something else?
With the profile of the case I would definitely like feet on it (using a DSA ketset, so some angle is needed). Are the rubber feet only for friction, and not for slope? like pads?
The angle on the last picture looks about right:
ulvasThe previous acrylic case GB was based off of the v1 design. The v2 design is lipless and TEX can add "acrylic feet". If the acrylic case is produced using a cnc machine, then the CAD blueprints for the v2 aluminum case with aluminum feet (should) be compatible.
For reference, please read the discussion from the aluminum TEX case on MD. MD launched the 60%TEX gb in a new lipless version (no fat lip). However, MD sold a gunmetal color version previously with aluminum feet, so the community requested the new GB to include aluminum feet. People didn't think it was possible, but the cases are made using a CNC machine in which the blueprint can be modified to support the feet. I'm assuming that these acrylic cases are made using cnc machines and can use the blueprint for the lipless version with feet. The two feet were added to the GB as an optional add-on item for an 8 dollar fee. If acrylic feet were to be added they would cost less than the aluminum variant. If the community speaks loud enough, requests can be fulfilled (such as the addition of the new purple color in the last GB and aluminum feet in the gb before that).
So let's request the option for those who want acrylic feet, and confirmation on the lipless version. I have also heard of a user who ordered an acrylic lipless version with acrylic feet directly from Justin at TEX, so it isn't out of the scope of possibility.
ChinguinAlex already said that Tex only makes 1 version of the acrylic, this one with the thick lip.
Machining acrylic is different than aluminum. It's softer, brittle, and melts easily (compared to aluminum). They would use different tools/speeds to cut it. This all would take time to program, test, adjust, test, adjust, test, adjust, test, adjust. You'd complain if it wasn't perfect right?
Not saying they can't do it, or won't do it. It's just not reasonable to ask them to commit to do it now for this drop.
If what is being sold is not what you want, drop out and start a poll for what you want instead. That will probably get their attention more than someone who wants something else, but will buy the current offering anyway.
AlexPk@AlexPeterkin can you please ask if TEX can provide "silver non-glare feet and bolts" as an upgrade option. I was so busy working on the custom options for the tkl version that I missed the purple aluminum case for my poker and kb60. I'm definitely in if we can add this. I have a secret feeling that I know your supplier can do it. Been provided once earlier if you search the quote up there. :-)
JediAlright, official word is that the Acrylic case doesn't come with any screw holes to mount the feet into, but if it's something you want to custom mod we're willing to make it available. Here's the color that would be available in theory as well.
AlexPkThe feet can have a flat base instead of a section to screw it in, so that it can be attached using double sided sticky tape to eliminate the risk of users damaging their product. Also, I don't know if I missed it but is TEX able to do the newer lipless version on this drop or is it the lipped version? Thanks Alex!
AlexPkThis looks perfectly reasonable. If the community is okay with this choice, I feel like we should edit the option into the checkout selection. Thanks Alex and Kunal!
ChinguinHey @Chinguin, this is in fact the lipped version. It's locked in for this production run, but we will express the communities interest to them about a possible future case that is lipless. I'm not sure if there's good technical reasons that they don't do it like @A0.C mentioned, but always worth bringing up.
livingspeedbumpHow do you think this would look with Jukebox? Almost jumped on it a few times but not sure if I should wait until I can get a silver or gold aluminum case.
QuickLimeI'm not sure, but I bought 2 so I'll find out. I think the plus is going to be having some lighting that can match the caps. I have a V60 with red LED's that I'll stick in it as well as that KC60 I plan to stick white LEDS (and make a how-to guide) soon. If you get one and dont like it, you'll easily be able to sell it for what you paid for it.
livingspeedbumpA guide for the KC60 would be amazing! Planning to jump on this drop to go with the KC60 as well! Would you recommend this case? It looks pretty amazing with a pretty good price as well
ETNguyenYes. This case is phenomenal. Terrific quality, affordable, and hard to come by when there isn't a drop for them. This is one of the few items I can 110% recommend without any thought at all.
ETNguyenI had one and sold it with an old V60, and regretted that constantly. I'm buying a few this time haha. You usually need to get feet for it to tilt it (I think they may be looking into getting Tex's feet), but the case quality itself is fantastic. Because it is a frosted finish it doesn't show fingerprints or anything like that either, much like Winkeyless' diffused cases.
livingspeedbumpThanks for reminding me about that.
We're going to add the Aluminum feet here shortly, but just a reminder that the case won't have the screw holes and a little DIY will be required.
Edit: Annnd added. Thanks everyone.
If they are, it looks like the screw threads are machined into the foot, which is a single piece of aluminum, which is very nice, but we would have to grind off the treads to make it flat to use double stick tape. Or drill and tap a hold in the case (probably not a good idea.)
A0.CI believe they are the gun metal ones that come with the TEX Yoda normally, but I'll try to have it confirmed. As for construction, I would guess it's the same. I'll try to get that confirmed as well unless someone with a Yoda wants to pop in
AlexPk@AlexPeterkin, there isn't the slightest chance that @Justin-TEX or his machinist can't borrow the mock for the polycarbonate case or the aluminum case to make those little holes needed for the feet? Seems a bit of a stretch that he is saying no when the MOQ is met and we are poised to hand him an order for 115 cases. Just a friendly question. Maybe @kunalkumar can make a call. We still have more than 115 to hand him if he says yes.
We are not disputing the $12 premium for the feet (previous drop they were only $8) and I am willing to stake that the quantity to order would rise. The community could also support extending the drop through the weekend (as this would not likely affect the ship date) since the order isn't likely to be placed until Monday 07/13 anyway.
livingspeedbumpAny ideas on a cable that would match too? The blue cable I have now just won't cut it :P Also, red LEDs are a good idea, do you know anything about SA keycap compatibility with the LED covers you can get? If I could use those it might be cool so I can use white LEDs and change according to the specific keyset I'm using.
JusionDefinitely. On the Acrylic case you can see there's a slightly thicker lip on the bottom. The newer revision of the aluminum case comes with the slim lip. Just personal preference.
JediTEX got back and they say that the Acrylic case is too thin for the aluminum feet to screw on if the holes were made. They'll however change the Aluminum feet for everyone ordering one on this drop and use glue on them such that they can go on the Acrylic case just like the rubber feet.
kunalkumarAre they going to come pre-glued on or can we do it ourselves? I'd like the feet, but it would be nice to be able to make sure I like them in person on this case before I add them on.
