The 5's pop out of the box looking and feeling like a pair of marbles but they lock into your ears without much fuss. The combination of the ear loop and its own weight is a perfect combination for my ear shape. I have a habit for lightly tapping iem's to check for seal and while the 5's instantly fit, there is a mechanical clipping noise every time I do this. (Not a factor at any other time) And the only thing that fastens the 2 - pin connectors to the shells are the 2 - pin connectors. These are brand new, and after a week of light usage, I can see a gap and exposed pins at the connection. I pushed them back... but how loose will this connection this be in one year?
Probably needs some burn-in but the treble seems a bit tight out of the box. The volume is there, but it's almost as if the drummer taped a tiny cotton ball on smaller crashes and splashes. (I think some people prefer this) Other than that, a nice sound for meaty horns and bassier strings with good seperation. Offers plenty of that beefy backbone for baritone sax, contrabass, trombones, etc... Would be nice have some sparkle on the other end for balance but at these prices, who is complaining? More of a bass forward slide than a V shape. My first massdrop purchase. Picked up three different colored 5's for a family of four figuring one person might give theirs up... not happening.
