Is it just me BUT the cables are messed up. Like the over ear loop is facing the wrong direction? If I plug them in so its facing to the back the sound is out of phase, horrible. Like when I plug in where R or L and the " . " are facing out then sound is great but I cannot loop over ear. It makes me loop under ear with cable over ear. Crazy?

CorradoManDo you have the plug into the wrong ear piece? My 5's work great, I have the R end plugged in facing in the same direction as the speaker output on the R ear piece. Likewise on the L side.

Drizzt321So when I plug them in R on the plug facing the smaller r on the headphone body (towards your head) the loop over ear is correct, BUT they sound horrid and out of phase. I was wondering what the hell is wrong with them. I tried plugging in withe the plug end R label facing out (away from your head) and then the sound got soooo much better. Finally understood why they get good reviews. Problem is the loop on this configuration is making me run the cable from bottom of earlobe up over ear and hang in front. I feel some of these are royally screwed up. If you see some folks are screaming about bad sound. I bet this is the cause. So I would have to run some tests to see what the cables are mapped to. Something is fishy though. Pictures on the net show cables both ways. Most pictures actually R/L pointing out.
CorradoManMay I ask how you ended up resolving this issue? I just received my pair of 5s and have exactly the same problem.
When attaching the cable I actually looked for some kind of polarity indication, but there is none. Upon checking the direction of the ear loop, it became totally obvious how to orient the connection... except they sounded like I was listening to my home theater with the subwoofer turned off. (Actually worse than that.)
Your comment prompted me to reverse the connections--such that L/R face outward--and the difference is astounding! But, of course, they're basically unusable in this configuration. Rotating the ear loop tubes isn't an option since they're crimped inside the molded plug housings (which is necessary for rigidity anyway), and criss-crossing left to right seems plain dumb.
Anyway, just figured I'd inquire here before contacting support, since I'd rather not have to return the entire kit. Thanks!
