I've never spent more than $30 on a pair of earbuds, and am by no means an audiophile. I listen to a lot of "bass-y" music. Will I be pleased with the baseline Series 5 IEMs?

prodigy254Most likely, yes. The bass of the Series 5 baseline is a bit loud for the tastes of many serious audiophiles, who would typically prefer the response to be even across all frequencies. If you prefer the bass to be a bit heavy for the style of music you listen to, then they're probably going to be perfect. I can attest that for most styles of electronic music, all the TFZ Series IEMs sound great.
The Series 5S has a modification that reduces the volume of the bass just a bit, evening everything out. If you buy the Series 5 and decide that the bass is too much, you can perform the same modification yourself with a pushpin or similar. You can find instructions for doing so by searching for the "harakiri mod".

ky0ko@prodigy254 Oh, and a quick addition, TFZ stuff usually doesn't sound that great turned quiet, so for good quality, you'll probably want to keep the volume turned as high as you feel is comfortable. Don't take it too far and blast your eardrums out, though.
