The Rich Heritage of Harris Tweed
The British Belt Co. has been producing leather goods since 1946, using centuries-old leather-working techniques to bring out the most in each piece. In its Milford collection of bags, this fine leather is complemented by Harris tweed: a fabric with a long, important history that dates back to Industrial Revolution–era Scotland. Made from pure virgin wool, Harris tweed is dyed, spun, handwoven, and finished in the Outer Hebrides, with all weaving done by islanders in their homes. Originally made by local crofters (or farmers) for their own use, it’s now one of the most sought-after fabrics in the world, its high standards maintained by the Harris Tweed Authority and the Harris Tweed Act of 1993.
