Looks cool but it's definitely not a 100+ dollar product, a rod that holds a glass funnel, not impressive

For ten bucks you can get a Melitta cone and filters. Is anybody else getting tired of these far too expensive gadgets with much cheaper alternatives?

As I mentioned in another comment, I bought a Coffee Registry pour over about 4 years ago and love it. I'm really happy to see it here on MD. I'm not getting one, I mean... I already have one. But, I highly recommend it. Cheers!

Is the glass cone tempered? Concerned boiling water would crack it otherwise.

t-k-oIt won't crack. It's the glass cone from a Hario V60 that is purpose built for brewing coffee.

$120 for a ring stand and a glass funnel...maybe $30 worth of parts off of a chemistry supply site if you don't look for a deal.
And I've got some beach-front property in Kansas to sell you.

Cool looking apparatus, but does it actually produce better coffee than a regular V60 filter holder?

YirgThe glass is a V60 glass, according to Coffee Registry's web site. So it's gonna be the same. Also, that says it is tempered.
And it also means it's not a simple glass funnel. That said...the cone's maybe $25. This stand is very much for presentation...brass and walnut. It's the kind of accessory for a higher end restaurant to do tableside service for 2; the company making it has that pedigree too. So the price isn't surprising...but that doesn't mean it's a reasonable purchase for our morning fixes.

CraigLewisYep, this is 100% correct. I have a Coffee Registry pour-over like this that I bought direct around 4 years. It's all about presentation. It looks great on our counter, and I love using it every day.
