I have to say, I don't personally like Eric M Lang games, its purely from my experience with his last game before this, Blood Rage, I thought quite a few of the mechanics were not very well thought out and just hastily put together, just my two cents, but I would be a little hesitant buying an untested game by him, that being said, he seems to be very successful so it might just be my personal preference and he is really a god among board game creators but i doubt it :P

DarkshadeNot entirely sure which mechanics of blood rage you were referring to. I felt that the game was really well done and flowed pretty well. Considering blood rage is a more Streamlined version of his earlier game, chaos in the old world, I'd argue plenty of thought was put in the game.

OdraneolTroll re pillage PLUS re pillage card..... And the game is horribly balanced, 60 glory for completing your clan tokens + 4 glory on last Ragnarok = insta win... AND the miniatures were not only horribly warped, some leaning and ect, the BASES of said characters were warped as well and were impossible to fix, they cause white stress marks on the plastic discs which look horrible and make it seem like its going to break/never come off., lets see what else..The Box itself is too small for its contents so its corners always rip, the drafting system is needlessly tedious and breaks up the pace of the game...the rule about the person being born furthest north is just a gimmicky pain... Glory marker ends at 100 when its easy to go past that... boats can never move nor assist in Yggdrasil.... I guess i could go on about how letting troops survive Ragnarok is also a game changer and each battle is like game over for one person each age but il just leave it at this.
SO glad I could return it!

DarkshadeIf you noticed, everything is overpowered and multiple strategies counter each other. How many times did you play before you called it quits? Did you get thrashed so bad that you didn't give it a 2nd chance. Also, I think all euro game score tracks end at 100.

OdraneolI admit i only played it 3 times, and only once did I get trashed but my little sister did win each and every game, the other people changed each game, I asked them if they would like to play again and all I got was hesitant answers. I also didnt want to wear out any of the game once I decided on returning it so I didnt play it after that. Like I said at the start of this post chain, this was just a personal preference, maybe i just didnt like the style of the game, or the specific type of strategy that the game employs. Certain parts of the game were good, i liked how people came back from Valhalla and such, its just the overall experience didn't cut for me. I did not know that about euro games though.
All im saying with my original post is to try to understand a bit of the game play mechanics for this game and see if you like that rather than just follow the hype of people of never got their hands on the game or by going on the names on the box.

DarkshadeFair assessment. I actually have the others (KS version) and played it once. Everyone had a great time, I lost but I think it's mainly my fault for misinterpreting the rules, but in me losing, the people I played with wanted to play it again (but we didn't have the time)
Will play it again this weekend, possible 2-3 times, and report it here if anyone cares. I would say however, if people are looking for a campaign Game played over multiple sessions, this is not it. If you are averse to one vs all games because you feel that GM/overlords do a lot of hand holding, you might want to check this out. I tried to take it easy for one turn and regretted it, the overboard should play as hard as he can to win.
