We would like to inform the group that there is an additional delay for the WhiteFox drop due to complications with the plates as well as an additional delay with the PBT dye-sublimation process. As we are working to obtain the best quality keyboard for our members, there have been some delays, as some of the samples we’ve received did not meet our expectations and will need to be reworked.
The vendor is now expecting to have 90 units of the Barebones Kits shipped out from their location by the end of this week. Additionally, our vendor has informed us that they are expecting to ship out the keyboards in bi-weekly batches to our warehouse as soon as they are packed and ready to go. The vendor is expecting to have the drop 100% shipped from their location by the beginning of June.
We will continue to work closely with our vendor in order to obtain the very best delivery schedule possible and update the group as soon as we have updated information.
We understand that the additional wait time is undesirable. If you would prefer to cancel your order, please contact Community Support using the “Contact Support” button in your transactions page (https://massdrop.com/transactions).
You can expect an update from us on 5/10 or sooner if something comes up. If you have any questions, please visit our Help Center (https://massdrop.com/helpcenter).
PeterKListen, I'm all for getting the best product, and I've given MD the benefit of the doubt this entire time, but I think the reduced number of boards ready to ship and crazy schedule we've been given are starting to get out of hand. I understand delays, and I get that manufacturing a previously non-existent product can be difficult, but there are things that community contacts need to do in order to keep the trust of the people they're supposed to be in touch with and/or represent.
Next time a run like this starts, I (and many others) recommend adding 1.5-2 months to whatever estimate your vendor gives you. It'll save the hassle of having people rage about delays and make your buyers extremely more happy and understanding. It also helps to be as transparent as possible in situations like this, which I feel MD isn't doing, which is actively hurting them.
I know this advice has been given in this "discussion" (if you can even call it that), but I seriously think it needs to be taken into account. Very transparent communication with your customers is what separates companies that people enjoy dealing with from those that people simply put up with.
PeterKThanks for the update. Nobody is ever happy to hear about delays, but as long as the vendor is willing and able to produce the expected quality at whatever pace they can achieve, then I think that overall it's still a win.
I also think that even "bad news" updates or uneventful updates on a regular basis are very helpful in setting expectations., so please do keep the updates coming regardless of the news. Extended silence is much, much worse than transparent communication about delays.
Anybody who has participated in group buys before should not be surprised by delays...I've seen much worse delays on much simpler projects, so at this point I'm still very optimistic. I also trust @matt3o as a very fussy "quality cop", based on all his prior projects I've seen on the keyboard forums, so I feel confident that he won't let us get subpar product.
