Mechanical Keyboard Sound Isn't That Simple
Figure 1: I couldn't think of a more literal way to represent this article if I tried... Looking back just a few years ago, there’s no doubt that the huge influx of people that joined the hobby at the peak of the COVID pandemic were drawn to keyboards by way of YouTube, TikTok, and other audio-visual content platforms. Even as the output from these content creators has waned in recent months, their collective impact and legacy on the keyboard hobby is rather firmly etched in the history books. As a result of all of their sound tests, build logs, and opinion videos, the message is clear to any new person joining the hobby: mechanical keyboards are all about the sound. Thock this, clack that. Whether it’s keyboards, keycaps, or even singular switches, seemingly everyone new to the hobby meticulously pores over each component of their keyboard not in an attempt to figure out how it will feel in hand, but how it will sound as they’re furiously grinding their way out from...

This is my first diy keyboard, and I needed some help. I just started configuring my whitefox keyboard and was wondering if there are any guides explaining each of the keys on the https://input.club/configurator-whitefox Some keys I am confused about: Next-f Prev-f f1,f2,f3 (Not F1, F2, F3) Lock-1, etc. Latch-1, etc. Flash 6/n-kro Menu APP PL/PS Scrn+, Scrn- Also is there a print screen key? Also does anybody know where to get the same type of braided cable, but longer?
On side note, I seem to have keycaps that are not straight, and some with like brown spots on them. I emailed customer support, and was wondering if anybody had heard back from massdrop. Does anybody know how long they usually take to respond?
Thank you all for helping me out, much appreciated!!
f1, f2, f3 .. refers to the different function layers. Flash is the key to press to put your board into firmware download mode. Same as pressing the button below. 6/n-kro toggles between 6KRO (according to USB specs) or NKRO (may not be supported by BIOS or some systems).
You can always press a key on your other keyboard after selecting the key to program on-screen, and the configurator will pick it up.
You can get braided micro USB cables on Amazon. Search for "braided micro USB cable". You can also have them custom made by a number of people on either Reddit or Geekhack. You can even buy a kit to do it yourself. Finding the exact same color and pattern paracord might be challenging (I didn't check).
Flash is shortcut to get into Flash mode (same as pressing the pin on the bottom of the board)
6/N Key Roll Over toggles between the two modes. I'm not exactly sure how they each work but some keys don't seem to work when I hit it.
Menu: Not Sure App: Not Sure
PL/PS: I believe this is a play and pause key Scrn+/- is screen brightness up and down Prsc - Print Screen
ƒN - Access Layer-N while holding the function key. Lock-N - Switches to Layer-N until the key is pressed again. Latch-N - Accesses Layer-N for 1 Key Press Next-ƒ and Prev-ƒ cycles the function layers.
This is how I have mine setup, however this is just a matter of preference. I've replaced my R-Alt with a function key. I use ƒ1 to activate the second layer while I hold the key. This is where I keep common shortcuts, volume, brightness, N-Kro, etc. I also place the Lock-2, Lock-3, etc. Keys on the number row. Hitting Function + 2 will switch me to the second layer. This can be turned off by hitting function 2 again, function 3 will switch to the 3rd layer and so on. I think this is a good solution as there is no indicator of what layer is being viewed.
Thanks so much!!! I guess I'll have to wait. -__-" I was wondering do you guys know which one is windows key?
