The WhiteFox Mechanical Keyboard is the dream keyboard of Matteo Spinelli (Matt3o), creator of famous keycap sets such as Granite, DSA Retro, and Skull Squadron. In 2013, Matteo wrote a legendary post on how to create the BrownFox DIY keyboard kit, igniting a custom mechanical keyboard movement. The WhiteFox represents the conclusion of Matteo’s hunt for the perfect keyboard, in form factor, material choice, and programming options.
Note: At checkout you will have your choice of a barebones kit, a DIY kit with Cherry, Gateron, or Zealio Switches, or a fully assembled keyboard with either Cherry or Gateron Switches. Assembled kits come assembled with everything in the DIY Kit. Both the DIY and assembled kits will include white LEDs.
You can also check out a look behind producing the WhiteFox.
The WhiteFox is a 65% keyboard, making it both minimalist and compact, but with the critically important arrow key cluster. The keyboard comes either fully assembled or as a kit, and there are four available plate layouts for the WhiteFox, each with a subtle change for keyboard enthusiasts worldwide. The True Fox is, of course, Matteo’s perfect keyboard, but if you prefer ISO Enter Key, you have those options as well.
All the materials selected for the WhiteFox are truly the best available. The plate and case are aircraft-grade aluminum, with a silver bead-blasted texture. Aluminum was carefully selected over steel to allow for a very slight flex when pressing each key, making for the optimal typing experience. The PCB is designed by Input Club, making it fully programmable and open source, with the possibility for infinite layers using the configurator. All of the components come pre-soldered, meaning a beginner would have absolutely no problem constructing a WhiteFox. The PCB will support LEDs and run the TMK firmware, as an early prototype was sent to Hasu for analysis. The firmware supports LEDs and they are included on all assembled kits.
The keycap set designed for the WhiteFox is also revolutionary. The WhiteFox comes stocked with thick PBT Cherry profile keycaps, with crisp dye-sublimated and centered legends designed by Matteo himself. This is the way keycaps were meant to be made. Each keyboard will ship with a full set of keycaps including an extra 2.75u shift to adapt the keycap set easily onto 60%
The switch options for the WhiteFox are the styles most preferred by the Massdrop Community. Authentic Cherry MX Blue, Brown, Clear, Green, Red and White switches are of course available, followed by Gateron Red, Blue, Brown, Green and Clear switches as options. Unique to this drop is the inclusion of Zealios, the purple/clear switch designed by Community member Zeal. Zealios are Gateron switches, comparable to Cherry MX Clears, with a slightly higher actuation point and an extremely smooth action. For this drop, 65g tactile switches will be available. All DIY kits or Assembled kits come with 70 switches of your choosing. Those that choose assembled will receive a few extra switches with their order.
All orders will be shipped by Massdrop.
Estimated ship date is Nov 21, 2016 PT.
After the drop ends, payment will be collected and the group’s order will be submitted to the vendor up front, making all sales final. Check the discussion page for updates on your order.
