These versus AKG K533? Comparisons? Contrasts? Sorry folks, I'm being lazy. Have an ancient set of AKG 701's for home, but I'm looking for something decent in a closed back for work/commute.
thanks

ChicosnowI was gonna ask the same question , I did some research and majority of comment and reviews i've found so far said that K533 is something like hd-600 but with good sub-bass and bass boost ,though soundstage is not as good ,transparent and spacious as hd-600. But considering K533 is a closed-back design, it still did manage to have a decent soundstage.
I really wanna join the drop, considering i want more ''fun'' headphone for modern and synth-bass oriented music. HD600 just wont be suffice in that category.
So, i think if you want a strive-to-be neutral headphone with little fun on the low but not too overpowering , This could be your pair
I've found this review to be very helpful, http://headfonics.com/2015/10/the-k553-by-akg/

Just posted my review yesterday. They're both great headphones but when it comes to bass extension and portability the On2 is vastly superior. Removable cable is a nice plus as well.

TheContraptionistThanks much for the assist. I pulled the trigger on the ON2 late last night for exactly the reasons that you mention. Ease of portability, much shorter, removable cable and a less mechanically aggressive looking build. I figured that I was in a no wrong answer situation, but the extended bass should be more "fun" and my home/studio 701s give me that beautiful, neutral reproduction and wide ass sound stage already. I was also just a bit concerned with the comfort the 553.
Thanks again. I think I'll be happy with my choice, especially at this price point.

ChicosnowYou are very welcome! Those are great reasons to pick up a pair. That and the current price which is excellent. I know some people discount reviews where the headphone was provided as a sample, but I truly believe these are amazing. Once I've got the cash I'm getting a set for my cousin. He would get the pair I've got now but they need to stick around for comparison purposes, and possibly because I like them too much to give them up. They look so good...

ChicosnowKind of an apples and oranges thing, given the many physical and design differences between them. The AKGs are a very nice headphone, and I really them for long term listening. They seem a bit 'thin' though in their lack of a really full sound. Not to the point of sounding bad at all, just not the highest quality I have. The ON2s are really not lacking in anything, and have the advantage (in this comparison) of being very portable, and I have no issue with the smaller on ear size when listening at home. Also, no sound leakage when out and about with the ON2s.
