Never buy this pen. Mine showed up leaking ink all over everything. I cleaned it up and set it aside for another day. It was not until month later that I order refills for the pen (HI-TEC-C) only to learn that my pen was defective in manufacturing and the tip did not secure the ink refill. It is unusable. I contacted Massdrop and the support I got on a $70 pen that was complete junk on arrival? Zip. Nothing. I have email that says "Sorry". Yeah, that was worth $70.

I'm not a fan of this pen. It's very heavy. With a fine tip for precision writing, this pen will encumber your precision. More momentum means it's harder to quickly move directions and lift the pen from paper. I used this pen with a 0.4mm tip.
We’re happy to report that all of the orders have been shipped out!
Thanks again for the support guys. Make sure to share your experience with the Ti2 Pen on Massdrop.

Darn shame the reasonable priced versions sold out or offered so few. I don't see the value in a double priced for a slightly darker (black) color. PVD finish in the watch industry is usually cheaper than raw metal in production, how is a PVD coating any more special. You don't see PVD black versions of watch models cost 2x the price. Usually it is the same price, or at most a 10-30% additional premium, certainly not 100$ (double). Yes, I know PVD coatings aren't all the same, that said you advertise this one to scratch and form patina over time, so this can't be that special of PVD coating. This is a classics looks premium for fashion, however, for such a supposed utilitarian minded company this line of pricing doesn't make sense.
Also, what is the point of the O rings, to hold the cap in place or do they serve another function?
I will commend you for getting me interested in owning a pen made of brushed titanium. I never thought I'd want a titanium pen before seeing this drop.

beatstreetWould have liked an original one plus the PVD (if the PVD wasn't 2x the price) :(. I have PVD watches that are close in price to its ss ones. Any reason why the coating costs so much more?

beatstreetPretty sure Mike doesn't do the PVD in-house, and the shop who does it charges him a pretty penny. The other colors have always been offered at a sharp markup. I understand they do sell, but you may not be the intended market.
The O-rings indeed are the mechanism for securing the cap in this design.

I would like to join this drop, but am having problems...it won't let me order the original pen with cap (for the option of limited edition, which is a mandatory field, it only offers the black addition with clip and if this option is selected, the price is $119)...also I don't see any place I can select what color bands I want as the extra...please advise
ShermjackSherm -- Looks like the originals are sold out. All of the pens for this drop come with an assortment of orings .. Black installed and 4 each of Red, Green, and Blue.

I bought this pen on first release. The ink cartridge leaks like crazy. Can't use it & can't find replacements. Disappointed

Mkay0219Sorry for your disappointment, but it seems like it stems from lack of information rather than the product. Other readers need to realize how off base the prior comment is.
The cartridge is a Hi-Tec-C, one of the most popular options out there for writing / drafting aficionados. Any pen cartridge has the potential to leak; the Hi-Tec-C is not particularly prone to this problem. I've had a $15 Mont Blanc refill ruin clothing by leaking, but never a Hi-Tec-C. It's distributed as the G-Tec-C in the USA, and is commonly available. There are many sources for refills online and, literally at this very moment, Massdrop has a drop for a set of 10.
My short review: I use mine (original finish w/clip) day-in day-out for clinical notes. Never once has it ruined a suit/shirt by leaking. Replacement cartridges are easily and cheaply available. The 0.3mm is fantastic, my girlfriend loves the second one I got her for lab notes, and I'm getting another for backup. I definitely recommend adding the clip. The Ti finish of the original is very nonreflective and will show the first few marks, but over time burnishes into a very nice stable, uniform, half-matte patina.
My shorter review: This is, without qualification, the best Hi-Tec-C host available for EDC.

JDWarnerWhere do you buy your refills from? I used jetpens to get the first couple, but their shipping is almost double the price of a refill. I would love to get some of the less common colors in thinner tip sizes, but I haven't really been able to find retailers who sell them, other than jetpens. Here's hoping you are also in the US.

A friend and I got a two of these pens on the last drop - black and regular. The regular is our favorite by far. The black isn't quite as eye-catching and the ink starts to accumulate near the tip for a messy look. It can happen with the regular one too, but it doesn't look as bad because of the grey tip.

utdeepThe ink can be wiped off for the most part. It's not overly resistant to water, so get a wet cloth if it doesnt just rub off. I've smeared some ink on the tip of mine several times, and never had any issue getting it off. Both the black ink it came with and the purple ink I primarily use.
Also for those of you that care, you can find appropriately sized o rings in almost any color. I have purple for mine that I bought on ebay for about $2-3.
