How do these compare with the NuForce EDC? If anyone has the TFZ exclusive 5 or maybe even the TFZ series 2, please share a comparison.
I found that my EDCs were quiet (given its low sensitivity) and I did not enjoy them very much. I really enjoy my TFZ exclusive 5s but I feel as if its V shaped sound signature may be too much sometimes even though the mids do become less recessed after some burn in. The IEMs are loud which I appreciate, even at 80-90% volume (when powered by a phone or iPad). I listen to a lot of orchestral works and many instrumental pieces so I would love an IEM that has good balance rather than emphasis on bass and treble. Do these IEMs do that?

JawadFirst of all, headphones aren't "quiet" or "loud". Each headphone requires different amount of voltage and current (depending on their impedance), so reaching a given volume with a headphone it's just a matter of proper amplification. And if you find some of your headphones don't sound loud enough from a smartphone or tablet, consider getting a portable amp or DAC/amp. That being said, I own both TFZ E5 and T2 (non-pro, quite similar), and they're very different. T2 has much more mid presence, they have a pretty good balance between lows, mids & highs. They have some good treble extension, bright but not overemphasized, clear & natural mids, but bass is a bit rolled off, specially sub-bass is very lean (unless you cover the vents, then they become bass monsters). For me this is perfectly fine, since I own other bass heavy IEMs; and I know that with just two pieces of blu tack I can turn these into bass cannons by covering the inner vents, so no big deal. But if you're a bit of a basshead, you might find they miss some bass impact with opened vents. I used to find them mediocre, poor bass extension and challenging fit made me put them into a drawer for half a year (I've yet to find some silicone tips that seal with the T2, I swear I tried 10+ pairs and couldn't get a good seal). Then, I got used to open back over-ear headphones, which usually don't have almost any sub-bass at all, and when I heard back the T2 (with cheap chinese foam tips) I could appreciate their strengths without missing any bass. In fact, now I tend to prefer rolled of bass than boomy/distracting bass, so I can appreciate the whole music and not just the BOOM BOOM BOOM. If I ever feel like blowing my ears with a insane amount of sub-bass, I pick my TFZ E5 and crack the volume up, but for average listening sessions I tend to prefer a balanced sounding headphone like the T2.

Eli35I was referring to the volume produced by the headphones when using the iPad because I do not want to get an additional amp/DAC as of right now. I do realize that the NuForce EDC's required an amp. Because the TFZs did not and they sounded much "louder" (using the same source: the iPad) than the EDCs, I preferred them. Considering this, can you tell me if the T2s will be similar to the EDCs where if I do not have an amp, it'll be much more quieter than the TFZs? Despite the fact that the TFZs cost almost $40 more, it seems as if the T2 provides an incredible listening experience for the price. I hope this is what you are trying to say which if you are, I am excited to buy these. I will definitely appreciate a balanced listening experience. Thanks so much for your insight. I truly appreciate it. Jawad

  • T2 are somewhat harder to drive (require more power) than the TFZ E5. I don't have them both here right now to compare, but I've used them extensively from my smartphone, and I'm pretty sure the T2 require ~20% extra volume to reach the same sound level as the E5. But they still sound "louder" than other IEMs in this price range, like the KZ ZS5 (louder using the same source at the same output volume)
  • T2 aren't "better" than the TFZ E5, I'd say they're both great in their own way: T2 have a excellent balanced sound, but low end is recessed, require foam tips to properly seal and fit is challenging, while E5 have a strong V-shape sound with super deep bass and bright treble, and fit in my ears very easily.
  • Given their lower price, the T2 are a great deal. And since you already own the E5, the T2 would be a great complement, offering just the opposite sound signature. I own them, and like them so much I'm even considering getting into this drop, just to get a second pair and try the "pro" version, which allegedly have better low-end extension and smoother treble.

JawadAlso, if you're looking for a great price-performance balanced sounding IEM, I suggest you to also check the KZ ED16: they're sold very cheap on AliExpress (<$20), super comfy, and sound very warm and natural. I use them as my night buds, because their housings are so small and properly shaped that I can lay on my side without feeling they're coming out or losing seal. And given their sound signature, these are perfect for listening netflix/youtube or playing, because there's no bump in the bass or treble distracting you from the dialogs, everything sounds "just fine". If you wanna read some other budget IEM suggestions, you https://audiobudget.com/leaderboard/iem . Good luck!

Eli35Thank you so much. I guess I am pretty much convinced on buying the T2s. I don’t think you mentioned if you had the NuForce EDCs... If you do, please compare them as well. Jawad

JawadI have the T2 pro and EDC3. The T2 win for efficiency, clarity, soundstage and bass extension. I’ve tried all the included tips but can’t get a comfortable or secure fit. Construction is good but they look cheap. It’s a shame because the sound really wowed me straight out of the box. EDC3 fit and comfort is top notch. They look like much more expensive IEMs from Shure. Sound quality is good but not exceptional. They are my daily drivers for now.... until I can find something better.

dgt5Unfortunately EDC3 costs $100... Anyways, thank you for your input. In general, most people would agree that the eartips are subpar. It seems as if either people prefer only the foam tips of the T2 or none at all.

JawadI think problem is not the included tips, but the nozzles itself: they're kinda wide and very very short, and housings are pretty wide for being a cylinder-like IEM, which means you have to fit longer than usual tips or you won't be able to insert the housings into your ear canal (each ear is different, so YMMV). I've tried a few foam tips, and the ones that fit me better are comply-like foams, by far. Included foam tips were ok, but other brands fit me better smh. Specifically this ones are cheap and effective, I ordered 3 blue and 3 red to get R/L color marking on the tips (convenient!). Check how mine look here:

BEAUTIFUL <3 BTW cable is also aftermarket, stock cable got "rusty" (green-ish tint) after a few months and it missed some kind of memory wire, so this one is definitely a worthy $6 upgrade. And it looks pretty cool too. Here's the link of the cable in case you're interested.

dgt5Try other foam tips, I managed to get a proper seal with comply-like foam tips bough from AliExpress (link above), and sound improved a lot, specially bass.
