I'm in and I wanted to state my reasons for being in, especially in light of the noise created against this product... first, I'm a user of alcohol stoves currently, and looking for attributes that might improve my kit. I use a wide pot now, mostly because all of the alchy stoves I've used so far have a wide flame. I'd like to start using a narrow pot (not the Toaks one offered here) and have been looking for a stove with a more vertical flame. And yes, I understand that the flame will still come up the side a bit.
Besides the inward pointing jets that produce the more vertical flame, this capillary type of stove gets good reviews for being able to light in cold weather. That's also important to me. Again, understood that the priming element of using some alchy stoves is not a real big deal and is just part of the process of learning how to use them. Still, this feature holds value for me, as does the additional cooling effect of titanium, and I really don't care defend that to anyone else.
The trangia kit that was recommended by another poster is a great basic kit. Having used it, and having had a little trouble here and there with certain aspects of it, I'd say its a great kit for someone who isn't sure what they want but wants to try using an alchy stove. Love the fact you can store alcohol in it, but I find that becomes less useful the more I'm out. Still have my trangia, and would still use it for any circumstance when I want one quick boil. Otherwise, if I'm carrying more alcohol, I might as well carry less stove, however minimal the difference might be.
And just to explain myself, and apologize again for getting a little ornery, I am a hater of nothing except extreme language and/or opinion when used inappropriately. This deal is ball park for anything titanium, so a sham it is not. I completely understand the preference to not spend $37 when one can spend $5, but its my prerogative to say what is the same thing and what is not and to choose what to spend my money on - because it has value to me. This is why we should all refrain from being too negative about anything on a for sale site. A forum site, no problem, say all you want.
Besides, with the 10% discount I got on my cuben fiber tarp, this deal fits nicely!
