Just received them, and I'm disappointed. One of the glasses has a very rough finish, and even the others, there are not two alike. A lot of defects on them
Definitively never buying anything from Toaks again
Megamastercan you elaborate? I'm curious. having them all be different is not really a big deal, but what did you mean by defect? scratches? gouges in the finish? holes?
Megamaster Yes, they have some scratches and the varnish they used for the finish is pretty bad in two of the glasses, very uneven and rough to the touch. From the four glassses I have, only one doesn't have defects.
MegamasterLegitimate gripe I suppose, but variation in surface finish is common to just about all of the China-produced titanium no matter which brand it is. The products from Snow Peak and Evernew are more consistent in that regard but I've seen some "blemishes" in Evernew and MSR titanium pots. Not too many get upset about that for camping use but if it really bothers you just email Toaks and they will take very good care of you, guaranteed. There is no varnish or extra finish on any of their products...unless that's something brand new on the shot glasses? I have several of their products and bought two of these shots directly from them early this year - just the same stuff the pots mugs and cutlery are made of. I don't know why the variation in surface finish but it really is common and just aesthetics - not a practical matter (except for melted cheese maybe!). Toaks uses the softer more pure titanium alloys (either I or II, can't remember) - I don't know if the Japanese brands use the same or not, so it's possible it's just a metallurgy thing or it could be rushed/sloppy manufacturing, but at any rate it really doesn't matter in a practical sense. But if you're not happy Toaks will bend over backwards to make you happy, just reach out to them.
