Is this a better buy then SMSL sanskrit 6th edition or Schiit modi 2 ?

SurenBetter than modi 2 for sure. Sanskrit probably a little better or little worse. No technical reviews of D10 yet, but if you want a usb powered dac then this will be sufficient and decent. If you want wall powered dac then smsl is good bang for buck.

kltp567The topping D30 seems to be the best ~$100 dac on the market, and although this D10 has different chip and build, its the same company so I have would have no doubts that this easily beats the modi 2. Even if different engineers designed the D10 vs D30, I wouldn't doubt its worse than the modi 2 for a second because toppings measurements on their own website are fairly accurate which proves honesty and solid engineering. Use the behringer 204 dac and ifi idac2 for reference between the three reviews I link here.

kltp567I bought a modi 2 and was disappointed. It couldn't better a cheap Onkyo cdp. It's difficult to describe, but the music was a bit on the fatiguing side where high frequencies became seemingly exaggerated. And imaging was mediocre. I tried nice cables, etc. then I gave it away. I don't sell crap.
