Hi all, My unit just arrived and right after installing I encountered some problems with proper setting of the DAC w/Foobar to play DSD files. I followed closely instruction but all I got was high volume noise and 11.2/5.6/2.8 DSD on D10 display. Then I started to tweak with settings, but the best I could get was 384k PCM while playing DSD. Sound quality is perfect, but having DAC with DSD capability I would like to make advantage of it. I probably missed something or instruction is misleading. Can someone share some light on how to configure D10 to recognize DSD stream and to play it w/Foobar ? Someone who managed to make D10 play DSD :)

Mi.RogDid you install the drivers for the unit?? You can find them here if you don't have them already, http://en.tpdz.net/wdzn_detail/newsId=60.html I got in on this last drop, and just got notice it shipped, so when I receive it I will try to find out what is needed to play native DSD. If you can figure it out before, please post your findings.

FrogmeatYes, I have done everything according to manual. Twice - first time I have installed newer components, then I took components from Topping package - same effect. Must have omitted something important . Thank you for your interest.

Mi.RogHave you configured Foobar outputs? You should be using ASIO and circumventing windows drivers for everything in Foobar, but you also need to add a plugin for DSD

and then I configured ASIO driver as below (however, I tried also "native" w/o difference)

Tools: SACD: is set to DSD. Could you be more specific in what do you mean " circumventing windows drivers for everything in Foobar"? It sounds that there are a lot more to set up...

Mi.RogOne more thought came to my mind: maybe it's something with latest April Windows Update? Maybe Topping driver is no more valid and need to be updated too?

Mi.RogIf you have installed the Topping D10 driver succesfully, then in Foobar -> Preferences -> Output, in the dropdown for Devices you should see and select DSD : ASIO : Topping USB Audio Device

Mi.RogYou might need to go into your Windows settings for playback devices, check the exclusive mode box under the D10 properties advanced section and see if that helps.

GSS61It works, partially. If I choose either DSD: ASIO: foo_dsd_asio or DSD: ASIO: Topping USB I can play DSD. Unfortunately - only @ full volume. If I only draw slider a bit below 100% - display changes respectively (2.82DSD->176PCM; 5,64DSD->352PCM) and sound seizes or is strongly distorted. I'm going to give up. I think that there is something wrong with this Chinese cheap DAC.

Mi.RogI've had several different USB DACs that handle DSD and that has been normal when it comes to streaming native DSD from Foobar. If you have JRiver, there are settings in that where you can stream native DSD, so you could try that. There's nothing wrong with the Topping D10.

Mi.Rog...except the behavior where the display changes, seizes when reducing the player's volume control. That never happened for me - but when playing DSD the media player volume control doesn't do anything.
When I get home I'll have a closer look at how I have Foobar set up to see if there is something different from what you've got posted here and report back.

Mi.RogTry uninstalling foo_dsd_asio from Foobar... just use the Topping D10 driver as it includes ASIO
The Foobar volume control apparently doesn't do anything when playing DSD - it outputs at 100% for me as well. I think that is normal for DSD codec files. JRiver may behave differently, you could give that media player a try.

GSS61Thank you, I will tray as soon as I'm back home. It's strange this thing with volume control. I suspect that the output is somehow not native DSD, but DoP. I make this assumption because when I start DSD to play - there is quick change in D10 display - eg. 176PCM->2,8DSD, and 384PCM->5,6DSD respectively. To me it looks like DSD stream is packed in PCM ant then D10 unpacks it. I have also got an answer from Tpopping service. Here I post my question and the answer for everybody to know. I am going to give it a try as well. [Mi.Rog] Q: Few days ago my D10 finally arrived and I tried to set it up to play DSD files w/Foobar. I did everything following instructions in your driver package, but I can’t make D10 to recognize DSD stream (or DSD stream from Foobar is inappropriate) Is it possible that components you have included in the package are outdated? I have noticed that there are newer versions. Or maybe April Creators Update changed something and the driver needs to be updated too? [Topping service] A: Are you using WIN10? If is, we guess WIN10's own driver already replaced our driver. You can un plug D10, uninstall our driver, delete D10 at device manager. Then install our driver first, connect D10 to your PC after successful installion.

GSS61I did it all, nothing changed really. Good is that it plays DSD @ Output->DSD:ASIO:Topping D10. But the strange issue with volume control persist.

Mi.RogOK, sounds like it's working. Like I said, in my setup the Foobar volume control doesn't do anything when playing DSD... it's 100% output only. I can move it, but it has no effect on anything. It does work when playing PCM.

Mi.RogThe three DSD capable DACs I've had in use were the Topping D30, NuPrime uDSD and the Topping D10. All three behaved the same way in termes of Foobar playback of native DSD, so I think it has more to do with Foobar than with the DACs
Also, I run my Foobar media player output at 100% for all digital audio file streaming to my DACs any way because I control volume after the DAC with a tube buffer/preamp/headphone amp.

GSS61Ok, I think I finally have found solution to this issue. I am also much wiser than before :) This switching I described above ( at the beginning of play, 176PCM->2,82DSD) means that actually D10 DAC unpacks DoP frame. The PCM frequency is 176kHz, 16 of 24 PCM bits transports DSD data, and the rest 8 is for DSD Maker Field. So it is now clear for me that the transmission must be bit-perfect - no digital volume is allowed. Otherwise data is corrupted (and because of that when I turned volume a bit down from 100% I heard noise). So it leads to conclusion that foo_input_sacd outputs DoP to Foobar, not DSD native stream. It also explains why volume control is possible: this is PCM file being transferred to DAC, and DAC driver reports PCM frequency (176kHz). So instead to DSD: ASIO: Topping, I have set output to DSD: ASIO: DSD Transcoder (DoP/Native), then I configured transcoder to DSD (all inputs at both frequencies). This made foobar to output clear DSD stream 2,8/5,6/11,2MHz and these frequencies can be seen as well in D10 driver window. Volume control doesn't work and Topping D10 Speakers can't be chosen (when right click on speaker icon).

Mi.RogSame is here, I believe it is Windows 10 update problem because Centrance DAC stopped playing DSD altogether. Solution is SACD PCM mode until Topping will do something about their driver.

Mi.RogThere is not much information about this products around it feels like all of this is for thinkers or makes . after couple of weeks I kinda figured out thue to be told This Dac is amazing of course the D30 I bought it after and it's better Dac all around but not for much . I can't believe from 5 years ago the sound quality we are able to enjoy this days with the amount of money .

Ringing in PC38X's

I recently got this headset, and wow is it good. My only issue is when certain people talk on discord, I can hear a really high pitched ringing. I fiddled with a bunch of settings, computer audio and discord, and nothing seems to solve the issue. It is primarily if not all in my right ear only. Is there something wrong with my headset, or was that ringing always there I can just hear it cause the headset is THAT good? I haven't had any issues with any other application, though I have yet to test if I can hear the ringing on a different version of discord, say on my xbox instead of my pc. Only other issue I've had is occasional static, but I can't tell if it's from the headset or the show/game/etc.

Sennheiser PC37X randomly goes bad after disconnecting the cable ?

Greetings, Yesterday I was using my headset like normal with my macbook, just listening to music and on a call with people like usual, and the headset was perfectly fine. The stock wire that came with the headset is extremely long and yesterday it annoyed me very much that it kept getting tangled with itself, so I decided to see if the cable is replaceable. I pulled out the cable from the headset and saw the adapter, and looked online for a replacement. Upon plugging it back in, the audio sounded extremely muffled and washed out. Im not sure what I did wrong to make it mess up like that as I've always taken good care of it, ive had it for about 2 years and its always just been chilling on my desk, but anywho I thought the cable just went bad and ordered a replacement. The replacement came, and the issue is still persistant, so I am not sure what the issue is I've tried multiple different headsets and the issue is not with the port, and I also tried it with my windows laptop and...

Recommendation for my next headphone set? I have Koss 95x

Hey all, What would you recommend I get next and why? I have Koss ESP-95x electrostatic massdrop headphones. These are my first and only audiophile set. I love them. I think my only real requirements is $500 or less for the headphones and that they have a little more low end. I don’t need thump but these are really light on lows…but the experience is still awesome. Also any recommendations on an amp? I only have my electrostatic thingy. I am using the Topping D50 DAC. thx!!

Should I exchange the PC38X for better headphones?

I bought the PC38X headphones FOR GAMING and they are great, but I have NO use for a Microphone since I don't do competitive gaming and I was wondering if there were better headphone options at a similar price without a headphone, where (presumably) more of the cost was put into making it sound better. I also find that my PC38X don't get quite as loud as I would like and I was wondering if a cheap amp like the iFi Go link would draw a little more volume out of my phones. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BN6MM822?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details I went with the PC38X since it was considered the best bang for buck headphones.
