No spec on max power ? No spec on output impedance? What are you getting when you buy this amp?

tessierpgHere's the important specs:
16-600Ω
Maximum output power 1551mW x 2 (PO=Hi, 6.35 output, RL=32Ω,THD+N=1%) 291mW x 2 (PO=Hi, 6.35 output, RL=300Ω,THD+N=1%) 152mW x 2 (PO=Hi, 6.35 output, RL=600Ω,THD+N=1%)
757mW x 2 (PO=Hi, 3.5 output, RL=32Ω,THD+N=1%) 258mW x 2 (PO=Hi, 3.5 output, RL=300Ω,THD+N=1%) 143mW x 2 (PO=Hi, 3.5 output, RL=600Ω,THD+N=1%)

housepianistThanks for the answers, but the only thing missing is an important spec: the output impedance. How does it compare to the Schiit Magni2 or O2? (Both have output impedance lower than 1ohm if I recall)?

tessierpgWeird that I couldn't find that info on the a30. Yes, the SM2 come in at around 0.2 ohms if I remember. I did look at other similar headphone amps from Topping (VX3 for example) and it comes in around 0.19. Most of their other amps are well under 1 ohm so I imagine the a30 would be in that general range based on the internals.

housepianistI'm hesitating between a Schiit Magni2, a O2 desktop edition or this Topping A30. No need for now of an externalDAC (Although I am curious of the Schiit Modi Multibit, but that's another story at another time...) My Onkyo stereo network receiver has a 32 bit AKM DAC for home use and I have a Dragonfly Red for portable use. Therefore I just need an amp for my HD650/Massdrop 6XX (300 ohms) and occasional HD25-1 II (70ohms), HD598 (50-60 ohms approx I guess), HD420SL (600 ohms) and ATH-M50X (35 ohms if I recall. Which "budget" amp has the best sound quality? Any of these amps may be purchased in the 100$-150$ CAD range including postage and custom duties... I'll be using the amp with my Onkyo network stereo receiver with AKM 32 bit DAC as main source (line output of Onkyo to line input of the chosen headphone amp) and occasionally iPhone/iPad with or without Dragonfly Red as source.

tessierpgI'm actually trying to decide on the same two amps as well but I don't need a DAC necessarily. But my first priority is to purchase a pair of over the ear headphones. I've had in ears and on ears for many many years and I'm currently enjoying my Final Audio Heaven III Massdrop Edition. Love love love these things! But I long for the Sennheiser HD 600 and I'm within an inch of buying them (so far) so I need something to drive them properly. Honestly, I think most any good amp should do that quite well but I'm curious about Topping headphone amps in general so who knows what I'll eventually do.

housepianistThe HD600 is a great choice. Dont hesitate to pull the trigger on them, unless you also consider the HD650 (Which is more expensive and not necessarily/absolutely better). The HD600 was to be my choice but when Massdrop Announced the HD6XX at 200$ I couldn't pass that. So I have the 6XX right now. I still want to buy a second pair for my office and if Massdrop doesn't come up with a second 6XX drop I may also purchase a pair of HD600 on Amazon or Adorama.

tessierpgAfter the numerous blogs and vlogs I've gone over on the 600s and 650s, I think the 600s would be more suitable for me since they are a bit less laid back and less "veiled" than the 650s. I guess they're also a little more neutral than the 650s as well. But like you, if Massdrop ever brings back the 6XX, I'll have to jump on that!

housepianistLook at the Audioengine D1 for a combo.  I also have the Fulla 2.  I use both as a DAC for Hifiman EF 2A or Bravo Ocean Single tube amps.
