What's the difference between this and the new dx7s?

How exactly is the volume control implemented? ESS soft controlled? Or analog R ladder chip? Basically, is it lossy in the digital domain or not?

Got my DX7 in the mail today from the most recent drop. Got it less than a month from when the drop ended. Very happy with the product and shipping times!

I wish Massdrop was a little more specific (and honest) about the limits or what even happened.

My DX7 (from November Drop) came with a European power cord, not the US cord pictured. Haven't been able to use it just yet.

Anyone use this to put optical out of another source to powered monitors via xlr? I see most comments are regarding is use with cans. Thanks in advance.

Just received my DX7 after a couple week shipping delay and the balanced output is not working, pretty disappointing considering part of the reason I chose this a DAC/AMP over other options was for the balanced functionality/versatility. Topping support so far has been responsive but unfortunately not helpful. Also cant seem to get this thing to run at 32 bits tried reinstalling the driver from Toppings website with driver verification turned off as they suggested and still doesn't seem to be working. Not that 32 bit is a deal breaker but would be nice for things to work as advertised without needing a CS degree. I have been able to get sound out of the unit from the 1/4 in jack and RCA outputs. With very limited experience I would say the sound is detailed and a bit on the thin side. Using hd800 so might not be too bad with most other headphones and might be good synergy with slightly darker or neutral cans. The DX7 has a large soundstage but only OK imaging unfortunately don't have too much experience with similar price units so the following is probably pretty useless and obvious but I can say its better then an Audio Engine D1 but not in the same realm as a Chord Hugo which for the price is what I would expect. As always opinions vary and this is a first impression over the a few hours so far not very happy due to the issues I've had.

I agree with you on both fronts that's one of the reasons I was bummed the balanced out arrived DOA and why I'm going to wait until I can get a replacement before making any final judgements. 32 bits thing is more of a n OCD thing for me they advertise 32 bits I expect to be able to see it as an option. It also makes me think the driver may not be as polished as it should be or some things were left unfinished. I know it may not be fully true or logical but it's the little bit of Nigel Tufnel I have in me that says but this goes to 32bits.

GreenlightThey don't code the driver, its built by XMOS which is the interface they are using. 32 bits cant be an option because there is no audio in 32 bits and no chips actually can process 32 bits. It says 32 bits for marketing purposes only because it can downmix a 32bit signal into a 24 bit signal, but most players / OS / etc don't support 32 bit at all.

Can anybody help me. I have the hd6xx on the way, i am interesting in this Topping DX7 and the Alex liquid Carbon. Would it be able for them to drive the hd600x, cause i read that it is a high impedance headphone. I know the Crack is perfect match for the hd600x, but the crack is also only good for high impedance headphone. I am looking for something more general, so i can drive other headphone too. I dont want to invest in tube amp yet. It would be nine to have full balanced solid stated amp. That is why i am considering the Topping Dx7 and the Alex liquid Carbon.

nomegandJust my two cents.. if you're going to drive the HD6xx from the DX7, I would strongly suggest that you get a balanced XLR out cable for it. MyHD800S sounds very nice from the XLR but sounds very weird and disappointing from the SE connection. Both are 300OHM cans. I don't think the SE provides enough power to drive them properly but the balanced has no issues.

Just received my unit from the previous drop. Outer box was pristine, but product package was dented on one corner. Particularly impressive because the cardboard is almost as thick as Masonite. Not a great OOBE. There's enough foam inside that the unit itself doesn't appear damaged, but I wonder at the thought process involved in packaging a bashed OEM box for shipment...

jaydee63Right that is very odd... Maybe MassDrop received it, inspected and shipped anyways considering there was no damage to the product? Just a guess here.

jaydee63My unit came with a bashed box too (didn't buy on massdrop) but I've never had an issue with it anyway.
