ok from looking a spec sheet the jotenheim delivers more power and higher price $499 with balanced dac
dx7 specs for comparison and someone to make sure im understanding them correctly http://www.tpdz.net.img.800cdn.com/en/products/dx7/dx7-en-14.jpg
REVMADYea, putting that dac chip in will cost ya. If you are happily unbalanced like me, you can save $100, or get an Uber stack and save $200 if you don't have 300+ohm cans. That being said, I've heard the Uber stack runs the HD650's quite nicely.
StevangelistThe Joutenheim really is a behemoth for power, and it's a great amp. Don't discount the DX7. It has plenty of power, even for planars. I knew the Joutenheim was going to be great since Schiit makes great quality products at reasonable prices. I've been really pleasantly surprised as to what the DX7 is capable of since this is my first plunge into a product made by an up and coming Chinese manufacturer. So far, I regret nothing about my purchase.
ElzizoOh I hear ya! I love everything I've heard about the Jot, and if I had different cans, this. My issue is I bought the 35ohm he-400i's on the brand's summer sale for almost half price! Sweet deal, but hard to find a quality amp to drive low impedance, power hungry planars. They are NOT low impedance enough to drive off of a phone or media player, as they would like to tell you! Might grab a cheap Fulla1 (on clearance on schiit's site) for portability. For the desk, I'm looking at an Uber stack (need line / pre-outs), or a Jot if I can justify it, and buying overpriced balanced cables. I'm too lazy to solder anything on my days off haha
Edit: Price becomes more of an issue too, when you want to start integrating more of your home off of a single computer source, and your such a snob you won't settle for sub reference gear lol. "These ProMedia 2.1's aren't cutting the mustard." But Jimmy needs braces, Honey.
