I contacted Topping with a few questions, and they responded promptly. They confirmed that the MX3 is not firmware upgradeable, does not have AptX, and its speaker terminals and subwoofer-out are full-range at all times (no sub crossover).

RyocoThat AK device is a wearable DAC/headphone amp. An alternative device to the MX3 would be the SMSL AD18, which has AptX, a fancier display, additional features/settings, and a smaller footprint.
Feature-wise, the only reason to get the MX3 over the AD18 is its twice-as-powerful headphone-out... and simple, orange display.

mattrisDoes that means that the Sub Out may be used as a line out, so that can use the unit solely as a DAC with line out? Do you know then what are the output specs of the Sub Out ? Is it 2v output?

mattrisWhich email address did you use? I couldn't reach them. @tessierpg you couldn't use it via the sub out but you could use the headphone out as a pre-amp. Sub out is mono summed.

pinktankYes You are right, I just didn’t think right regarding that sub output. It’s just too bad that this unit falls short from having a true stereo analog line out for the DAC it carries.

tessierpgDesktop amps generally don't have a line-out, just FYI in case that is what you are looking for.
