Do anyone have the MX3 and the schiit stack or o2/odac combo? Just wondering how does the headphone portion of it fair against those.

R0BOXI have both the schiit stack (modi uber, magni 3) setup and to my untrained ears, the schiit stack setup does sound a little better with tighter bass and sharper highs. But when you factor in cost, I think the MX3 is a better value proposition with its extra features (bluetooth, auto power on, built in amp to drive passive speakers). Overall, I have no complaints of the MX3 performance as they drive my HI400i just fine and if I had to do it again, I would just save my money and just go with a MX3 setup since I mostly run my KEF Q100 now and hardly use my headphone anymore.

justaNoobThanks for the reply. Those are exactly the two setup im pondering about, I use DT770 and HD6XX and cambridge audio sx50 actually about 50/50 percent of the time. I feel like the reason i would want to get the schiit is that its more future proof as in I can upgrade different part and just get a speaker amp. However, I really would like a bluetooth input so I'm really torn apart. Just wondering if you could just give me some ideas to help decide.

R0BOXI got my MX3 for $130, and my schiit stack for $275 shipped. If you're already running passive speakers, I think it'll be a cleaner setup to go with a MX3 as its a all in one solution and it has bluetooth already built in for less than half the price!

R0BOXPersonally, I'f I'm wanting to drive both speakers and your mentioned headphone, I'd consider getting the MX3 now for it price and versatility. Then saving up for a nice dedicated headphone DAC/AMP. Something along the line of and Audio-GD NFB-11 or maybe drop on a decent headphone AMP here on Massdrop. I'm keeping an eye out for a drop on the Topping D30 (DAC) and A30 (AMP) as s secondary rig aside from my NFB-11.
The MX3 is likely to join my collection because it has a sub out for my speakers that my SMSL AD18 dosen't.
UPDATE: Apparently one of the optical it's doubles 3.5mm to dual RCA for a subwoofer out on newer AD18 models (unfortunately not my model). Still might get the MX3 For comparison purposes (joined the drop).

R0BOXI don't know how the DACs compare I haven't heard any of them, but would imagine the Schitt DAC is probable Superior.
In both cases they are more powerful then the MX3 for headphones. The Schitt AMP is much more powerful at 2w (2000mW) @32ohms and the O2 is something around 600mW @32ohmd. The MX3 is 257mW @32ohms.
Will the MX3 get the job done, probable (depending on your headphones) but if you just need a headphones AMP, is sick to a dedicated headphones AMP. It's really a speaker AMP with headphones capabilities.
I prefer my AMP to have some real power, so it can drive what I ow now and may own down the road.

RojasTKDBased on tests on audiosciencereview the Topping is actually far superior to tue Schiit.

SoldanoAs far as I know Audiosciencereview hadn't measured the MX3. The typing D30, D50, DX7 & DX7s are well regarded though and use a whole different class of DAC chip.
The MX3 is really a speaker amp though and headphone is an afterthought.
AudioSciencereview is measurement obsessed in not quite convinced that measuring something and hearing something are 100% the same.
I will admit I've never been sold on Schiit for some reason this do not own one of their products. I do however own some Audio-GD that I like and enjoy that is afternoon considered poor measuring by the audioscience people.
I do plan at some point to compare my audio-GD great to some audio science review approved gear and decide for my self.

RojasTKDI kust assumed the Dac was similar to the D10 an D50 they measured. But i agree that it doesnt actually give any clue regarding the actual sound itself...
