I don't understand this website. Are you guys really willing to wait 2 months to save $20 on something you could get in 2 days from Amazon. I know this included some PBT spacebars but I still think it is crazy. I'm not willing to allow my money to be tied up for 2 months on something like a keyboard. Especially when there are so many other alternatives that don't take nearly as long. You can get the 55g black case version on Amazon right now for $229.65 (https://www.amazon.com/Realforce-87U-Tenkeyless-55g-Black/dp/B00MV84Y2Y). This is craziness. If you can't afford $20 more then should you be spending $200 on a keyboard in the first place?

nickcon12Does it come with a PBT spacebar, or 4 for that matter?

nickcon12It's not about the money for most people, the stock abs spacebar is the "only" weakness for many people, and they're/had been hard to get at all solo. Four pbt spacebars could be sold for $80 or more, this way we're talking about $100 in total.
This is a community orientated website/store, still young, but people, who have the feeling to belong to a community, tend to buy within their community. We're willing to buy "average" stuff here to make other amazing stuff happen, that can't be found at other locations many times.
Give and get :)

nickcon12My main reason for buying this is that Amazon doesn't ship to me, and EK ships to me at $50. From here, I can get it at normal price, with 4 PBT spacebars, AND $10 shipping, which is extremely cheap compared to the other options.

nickcon12Do you really think every single person is currently living in the USA ? The Internet is all over the world. ;) I live in Canada and if I add the keyboard from your link... "This item can't be shipped to your selected address." I dare you to find a better deal then this, all cost considered, shipped to Canada. For me, yes. I understand this website.

nickcon12It's not just the $20, it's the 4 pbt spacebars that come with it. The matteo groupbuy hasn't shipped yet, and as of up until that pbt spacebars have been selling for about $20 each on Mechmarket.

nickcon12Problem in Canada is that its over 300 cad plus tax and shipping. Would cost me over $100 more without additional spacebars.
Sep 8, 2016
nickcon12A huge draw is the PBT spacebars, which will cost you nearly $100 elsewhere, if you can find them.
Some of is are also more than comfortable waiting to save money. The instant gratification bunch wastes a lot of money when they feel they need something "now". If you save 20 bucks here and there it adds up quick. Criticising people for saving money is a really stupid thing to do.

livingspeedbumpObviously you don't fully understand how money works. I could make back the $20 in that amount of time by using the money that is tied up in a keyboard. I'm not saying instant gratification is the thing to strive for. I think a $200 keyboard is an idiot thing to buy regardless of how quickly you get it. It is only made worse by having money tied up for that amount of time. Wasting money by letting it be frozen for 2 months is a "really stupid thing to do".

MloJloI never said I thought everyone lived in the USA. I would be more angry that the other retailers refused to ship to you. If Massdrop can do it for a reasonable price then obviously the others could as well. They just choose not to do it. I have noticed a lot of people mentioned the shipping cost. I honestly never realized that so many retailers charged so much to ship to Canada.

nickcon12I feel a bit sad when I'm reading you. I know you were late for the 55g. The thing is that you are explaining things from your point of view. I respect your point of view. But going on and telling people what is wrong from what is right, purely based on your life's point of view is a bit selfish, no?
It's all about the point of view. :) For myself.... I can't consider someone DONATING 100 US DOLLAR$... And even more to some (not so) entertaining guy on Twitch. But hey, it's their money, not mine.
My point is: Yes... Feel free to judge. But you accomplish nothing by telling publicly people what they must do with the money they own. It's frustrating I know.
And sorry for my english twisted sentences. English is my second language. ;)

nickcon12How is spending $200 on a keyboard stupid? For many of us it is an item we use for 6-8hrs a day. So by usage, you probably get your money out of a keyboard far more than many items you spend much more money on. Saving $20 bucks on retail, plus getting 4 PBT spacebars worth another $40 retail ($100 market value) is a great deal any way you look at it.

MloJloAnd I agree with you that people are free to spend their money how they choose. But my comment was in response to someone implying they were "saving" money by joining the drop. They said that I was stupid for questioning letting your money being tied up for 2 months. So don't take my comment out of context. If people want to buy the keyboard then that is their business. But my previous comments are still valid.
And I wasn't late for the 55g. There were still some available. I wouldn't ever spend this much on a keyboard.

livingspeedbumpI use a keyboard for more than 8 hours a day. And I understand it is a good idea to buy a good keyboard but $200 is excessive. There are perfectly good mechanical keyboards for a fraction of the price.
I also have a rubber dome that feels almost exactly like my friends Topre keyboard. My keyboard cost $20 delivered. His cost over $200. I am willing to pocket the $180 and then live with the keyboard that is almost as good.

ElixirI actually own several of the aliexpress/taobao spacebars. They're inconsistent, some of them are warped out of the box, some of them have the skeleton on the bottom of the spacebar making marks on the top of the spacebar. I use one of them daily on my HHKB, and roughly once a month, I need to take it off and twist it back into place, since constantly tapping the same corner of the spacebar when typing results in the spacebar twisting over time.
Will most people be happy with the taobao spacebars? sure. but there are people who are willing to pay a premium for a better quality product. And yes, the MD spacebars are in fact, better quality. Whether you believe that or not is up to you.
Sep 11, 2016
ElixirLike people said, those are cheap crap spacebars. I'm not saying any spacebar is with $100, just flat out saying that if what you'd have to pay to get the ones included in this drop with aftermarket prices. That's what I'm saying.
Sep 11, 2016
nickcon12It's all what people want. Spending any money on a nice mechanical keyboard can always be seen as frivolous.
As someone that writes all day every day for a living, I can definitely tell a difference. A huge difference with Topre over any rubber domes is that you don't have to bottom out to actually actuate the switch. The ability to type lightly and have very consistent feeling switches definitely puts less strain on my hands after hours of typing.
Is it with $200? You must decide that on your own. But I can say ive gotten more hours of use out of my 87u than just about any object I own, for me it is absolutely with it.

livingspeedbump"people" = one person.
No it isn't. There was a drop for Topre PBT spacebars by themselves on this site, they were $15 and I'm in it. There is next to no risk buying from Aliexpress and this keyboard is even cheaper on Amazon Japan, the only reason why this keyboard is bundled with these spacebars is that MD can't sell Topre keyboards by themselves thanks to an exclusivity deal Topre has with Elitekeyboards in the west. There is also no evidence to suggest that the spacebars included in this drop aren't any different from those sold elsewhere.

ElixirAnd we're trying to tell you, as people who have both MD's topre spacebars and the aliexpress/taobao spacebars, that there is a difference in quality between then, but hey, if you don't want to listen, that's your prerogative.
Also I think you're misunderstanding how the free market works. Yes, MD sets the price at $15, Aliexpress/taobao sells them at $5ish, however, there is a limited supply of PBT topre spacebars out there, and everyone with a Topre keyboard wants one for themselves. So in the aftermarket, when an item with significant scarcity goes up for sale, demand far outstrips supply, and the price goes up. I've personally not seen a Topre PBT spacebar go for $100 like livingspeedbump is saying, but I've seen it sold for as much as $50 per spacebar. I do think its rather silly, but thats capitalism for you. Everyone has a price.
And as for being able to buy this cheaper on Amazon JP, by all means go ahead and get it from them. No need to shit on the people getting it from MD. For some of us, this is the best deal we can get.
Sep 11, 2016
NeraloI also have a lot of stuff I get from a proxy in JP, shipping back and forth is expensive, even with EMS. It was really only worth it when I'd buy a heap of keyboards at once. And you're right, these spacebars are definitely different.
Sep 11, 2016
ElixirThere are obviously more than one person interestred in this keyboard, and buying it here.
Japan to US shipping is very expensive. I've gotten many keyboards from a proxy in JP. It's only worth it when buying in bulk really.
And Brian is a great guy to get these from. Ive gotten heaps of Topre boards from him. Generally pricing is very comparable to MDs, you just get something extra with a MD purchase. Obviously some people really want the extras, others want it delivered quickly. Neither option is wrong by any means.

ElixirShipping cost at EK is about 4-5 times MDs shipping cost for Europeans, which isn't EKs fault, different companies, different possibilities. Shipping cost at Aliexpress might be cheap often, but good luck if you're in need of service/exchange. We gladly help you, just send it back at your own cost. MD gets a mail if needed and they do cover it all.
We're all free to spend our money at the places we like, i don't understand this kind of discussion and let me rephrase myself.

MakamiElitekeyboard's non-US shipping is pretty extortionate, but last I checked shipping from Amazon Japan isn't even 2000 yen, they ship keyboards internationally and don't require a proxy, so it would still be cheaper than the lowest price available for this drop.

goldenNot new. I use mechanical keyboards. But that doesn't mean I am crazy about it. I'm not one of those people on here who sees a cool keyboard and thinks "well, guess the kids aren't eating this month since I have to buy this keyboard".
