Do people not realize that you can get a keyboard at Walmart for like $10?

DopeAsThePopeNot a mech keyboard, but you can get a mech keyboard with cheap switches for less than $50. $269 is a nice way to scare people away from mech keyboards.

ManiacDCDo you see people driven away from "usual" cars, because something like a Ferrari exists, can be bought? To each his own measurements and needs, but is there anyone forcing you to buy this?

DopeAsThePopeIf you haven't tried typing on topre switches, don't shit on them. Switching to a mechanical keyboard after typing on a crappy $10 keyboard is like seeing color after being colorblind all your life.
Yes, driving a crappy car can get you from point A to point B, it does the job, but the comfort is not there.

MakamiNo... this keyboard is being recommended as a Mechanical Keyboard "essentials". That's like recommending a Ferrari as someone's first car. Sure, I guess if they have millions, that's fine, but most people don't (and most people aren't going to spend $260 on their first foray into mechanical keyboards).

ManiacDCYour first mistake was taking "the essentials" seriously.

MakamiIf the $10 keyboard is like a Honda Civic, then this keyboard here is like a Honda Civic with some neon lighting from Autozone installed underneath.

ManiacDCTotally agree about the "Essential" marketing trash talk. But this relation inbetween the price and essential wasn't given to me at your comment. To talk eye to eye is so much better for communication without misunderstanding.

DopeAsThePopeI get your point and that's fine, but having in mind this is a community for mk lovers and people being curious about this hobby cheapo rubberdomes don't even drop here. If you are fine with that, no problem for me, we all have our different measurements about dis/likes, hobbies and needs. Your statement is fine, the place might be off, folks here don't waste a second about your "Honda Civic".

orangeju1ceSure, but reportedly these are very unlike other Topre switches. Everything from the feel to the sound. Plenty of A:B reviews and videos out there which don't compare this favourably to other Realforce boards.

ferretallicahaha I don't argue with that. I never tried these boards. I was just pointing out to the OP that the $10 walmart keyboard =/= mechanical keyboards. :) I have a cm novatouch and i love it over my cherry blues

DopeAsThePopeHow did you end up in the Mech Keyboards section? If you're actually wondering, don't condescend, and if you're trolling, try harder. And if you are actually wondering, yes, everyone here knows you can get keyboards on the cheap, but they're more interested in the feel and aesthetics than your average "just pick one up from walmart" crowd. This is just a fairly high end board that people charge a lot for because it's an import, and a lot of people like the feel of it. I agree with the other guys here saying that it being in the "essentials" area is some idiocy, though. Saying that is actually why I came to the comments in the first place.

StarPupilI come here for the headphones and whatnot and I saw a $269 keyboard.. to each their own, whatever floats your boat. I just found it quite odd that keyboards are selling for that much and people are buying them. Even in all my years of pc gaming I've never thought of upgrading my keyboard of all things.

DopeAsThePopeWell, if your'e interested in having a better typing and gaming experience, I'd highly recommend it. There aren't many good full keyboard drops for noobs going on (They're all comparatively expensive customs or lack switch choices), there is a deal on a switch tester going on [https://www.massdrop.com/buy/max-keyboard-ultimate-sampler-tester-kit] which would give you an idea of what kind of switches you might like. From there, you can either wait for a "good" drop to come around or you could buy one from https://mechanicalkeyboards.com/ or another tech retailer. Brands to look at include Ducky, Das, Kul, Topre, and Vortex. Yes, there is a Das Keyboard drop going on at the moment, but it's limited to MX browns, and you should see about which switch types you like first. People are always willing to answer questions over on reddit.com/r/mechanicalkeyboards, and if you do decide to join another expensive hobby (Audiophile ain't no picnic, and you can also buy $10 headphones at Walmart, so we're kindred spirits in that way), I'd be happy to help you either here or there. Cheers!

ManiacDCPlease explain. Money is no object for me. I made my first million off of bitcoin and my 4th off of marijuana stocks.

DopeAsThePopeI got a question for you since you said you like audio. And actually this one is much closer than what I'm about to say. Whats the difference between a ODAC and a Chord Dave? Or whats the difference between a WA7 and a Magni 2?
Once you stop typing on a crappy $1~100 dollar membrane keyboards and get on a mechanical keyboard. ANY mech keyboard for that matter, you have tangible, actual REAL difference that you can feel at your finger tips on why people are willing to spend hundreds of dollars for a GOOD mech keyboard.

ManiacDCMassdrop "Essentials" just means community/editorial staff picks. IE their just saying they like this and maybe you should pay a little more attention to it.

StarPupilI do ok for the audiophile bit i can not sit around listening to music. I day trade and that takes up most of my spare time because I spend it reading filings and whatty what. But I have a modest vinyl selection with a decent pair of speakers and old amp from the 80s. I shopped on audiovox the used online place.

MakamiI used to drive a hyndai sonata 2009 sits on the driveway unless I hangout with colleagues and gf. When I am going to be about and might run into people I drive around in the merc c300. Tbh the merc is great and perfect for self esteem. I can not get the same feeling from the idea of a keyboard so i will look at it from a headphone ideal.
