This is super interesting. How does the silencing work? If I modded this with Novatouch sliders would it still be silenced? Thanks

skaloolaSo when you silence an MX switch for example, lets say with O Rings, you put the rings under the cap to prevent the "clack" made when the bottom of the cap hits the top of the switch. On a Topre keyboard, that method wont work. Instead the silencing mechanism is installed on the top of the slider under the top plate, which silences the sound of when the slider hits the top plate on return after a keypress. In this case, the board comes with some thin rubber rings pre-installed that prevent plastic from hitting plastic. The sound is excellent, because the "thock" from the topre switches is really the only sound the board makes, with no "plastic on plastic" noise. In the pictures you can see the O ring on the sliders, and see the sliders installed in the board. Getting to them is a hassle for sure, so buying a board with them pre-installed is a nice option!

skaloolaAlso, i would not buy these sliders to put on the Novatouch. Hypersphere (Active on Deskthority and GeekHack) has a similar style ring he sells on ebay that you could install on a Novatouch. But technically, yes, these would be silent on the NT as well, though you can harvest the rings without the sliders and keep the MX capabilities on the NT.

skaloolaSilenced sliders are taller than regular sliders regardless of color. Just an FYI. Just because your cherry Novatouch sliders are purple doesn't mean that they're the same height as silenced Topre sliders. You could switch them, but who wants to do that? You buy a novatouch TKL because you want topre switches with MX keycaps. You buy a Realforce 87 because you want topre switches with topre keycaps. You buy the Realforce 104 because you want a nontkl Topre switch board with topre keycaps. The fact that it's silenced is definitely a bonus, but I believe this is a variable weight keyboard too... garbage. The only thing nice here is that you get 104 silenced sliders (that are taller) and OEM silence rings. The rubber domes are unusable (variable weight).
IonutZNot entirely true. The base is a little bit thinner, which helps compensate for the space the silencing ring takes up, but the sliders overall height is the same.
Variable weight is actually quite nice in my opinion. Again, it is one of the things that really shines when you are constantly typing all day long. Definitely a workhorse keyboard.
