hi, just wondering if anyone knows what all the hype is about keyboards here @ MD? I have a imac about 4-5 yrs old no problems ever with the full keyboard or track pad, they are silent & fast & reliable. I got stuck browsing @ the colored keys & wanted something different to look at so bought the pulse sa keys & infinity 60% board leds & clear case brown cherry switchs, to put them on for the iMac. I have read about click or no click but @ the end of the day only reason i could come up with is different colored keys for a bored person like me? The full size mac board is awesome what could be so much better to buy for almost 200 bucks? I ordered a Logitech Illuminated Keyboard K740 from amazon fews years ago & they sent me 5 of them so i have some other boards with back lighting but i have to use different keys made for a PC but its still a cool board for around 50-60 bucks. It all seams to be cosmetics. Now while i wait i think i also must have a board for the wife's mac air with maimi keys & while i'm at it i saw a willy wonka chocolate factory set of keys i need as well. thanks for any comments ahead of time.

rxspectaYou have to try one of the mechanical keyboard yourself to tell the difference. The realforce keyboard that uses topre switches is considered by many one of the best keyboards in the world because of the typing experience it offers. There are also many decent keyboards using various types of cherry switches, which are different than topre switches, and may be preferable by some people.
I agree that the imac keyboard is silent and may be preferable to some people, but personally the short key travel distance of the imac keyboard makes my finger hurt after several hours of coding. Again many people here hype about the color/appearance of the keyboard because they already know the more important thing: what kind of switch they like and what layout they prefer.
You can head over to www.reddit.com/r/mechanicalkeyboards or geekhack.org for more information.

Best response.
Topre is a VERY subjective switch type and varies person to person on how he or she likes or dislikes it. I personally am somewhere in the middle,i LIKE Topre and i enjoy using them on occasion but i do not prefer them to MX Browns. That said i still intend on buying a Realforce eventually just because the experience is indeed so unique.
