What does this have over a good bar blade? I have a stainless steel piece that I purchased for about $7. It seems to work just as well as anything could.

PrometheusSmithI'm happy that you're happy with your $7 bar blade. This is probably reaching, but your bar blade is a Honda Civic, it will get you to point A to point B and give you consistent years of service. The TORQ Bottle Opener is a bit more high end and it's for people who want the best. Find us a better bottle opener and we will have it on Massdrop.

andyI am not sure that analogy works. A BMW M3 is much faster, more comfortable, and better handling than a Honda Civic; it is better in quantifiable means. HOW is this better unless you really are saying it is better and "high end" because it is expensive. A Ferrari is not high end because it is expensive, it is high end in it's engineering, materials and performance.
This is for people who want to spend $30 on a bottle opener so that they can have a $30 bottle opener.

GneissHere is the difference between TORQ and your aluminum key chain bottle opener:

Here is some insight to the manufacturing process: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/mikebond/torq-bottle-opener/posts/198078
They are CNC'ed from billet stock and not machine stamped.
Edit: Here is a review from a customer:
Hi Mike,
After trekking thousands of miles last week to the test facility here in the great white north, we have just finished acceptance testing on your new TORQ bottle opener, gathering a substantial body of Reliability, Maintainability and Availabilty (RMA) data in the process.
With respect to suitability, the TORQ device adeptly grabs the cap and pries it off in the most casual of attempts to open the bottle. It is only in the very late stages of testing, where our testing engineers are entirely unable to focus on the bottle, and have no hand eye coordination remaining (much less the ability to eloquently describe the conundrum), where any difficulty whatsoever surfaces in prying off the steel hats.
Even under extreme cold conditions, thermal contraction is insufficient to adversely affect the TORQ device operation. The device seems entirely temperature insensitive, performing equally well on warm Mexican beer and frosty Bavarian nectar buried in a foot of snow.
There is no visible or measured evidence of plastic deformation / wear on the TORQ bottle opener after numerous operating cycles. This device seems unaffected by fatigue cycling, as one might expect due to the high tensile strength and endurance limit associated with 303 austenitic stainless steel.
In summary, the TORQ device performed exemplarily under a wide range of temperature, and operator dexterity and inebriation conditions, and is consistently ready and available to open your next beer. My steel hat is off to you sir.

PrometheusSmithIt has nothing other than excessive durability on its side I'd guess. I say "excessive" because even a cheap bar blade can last a life time. Does it fit in a wallet like the Fulcro credit card sized opener? No. Does it leave the caps in pristine condition like the Grab Opener? No. Does it look sleek like a Nuance Bottle Opener? No. Yeah.. I don't get it either.

tx.bCreate a poll and see if there is interest, there are many ways to skin a cat (open a bottle cap), let's put it to a vote.
andyI created a poll. You guys can throw those other openers in there, I haven't heard of them. Mike's TORQ was here: http://www.mensjournal.com/food-drink/grilling/summer-fashion-essentials-the-key-ring-bottle-opener-20130605
