david.zamorayep, that's what the listing says. you amp it, and it sounds acoustic.
like... there's no resonance chamber. there's no way it could amplify itself with the design. i could tell that just by looking.

dolljointsAhh - okay. I initially watched the product video. The guy busts it out in a park (no amp) and begins playing...I was like 'umm, okay'.

david.zamoramy best guitar practising years have been on an un-amped electric though. such a thing is actually ideal if you have to not disturb people nearby and don't want to hook it up to a bunch of cables to play with headphones. such a sound isn't that big but the notes aren't out of tune or anything.
of course part of the draw of this guitar is when amped it sounds acoustic, rather than like an electric. all electric-acoustics do that, but most also have a resonance chamber for playing without. but they're also way bigger. this is like the macbook air of guitars.

dolljointsHi, it's just a little 9volt box (match box) you plug into guitar with a 3.5 headphone out. I left it in Tallahassee, but I think it also has tone and volume controll. About $20 -$30. Handy.

david.zamoraHi David,
Massdrop members asked for a video demonstrating our solid-body acoustic instruments unplugged and so we created it for the community. This instrument is not necessarily recommended for a "campfire" experience but more for a private practice experience through: Guitar Headphone Amplifiers Mobile Devices utilizing Daw/Guitar Apps Small Portable/Battery Powered Amplifiers Or simply by itself
But more and more customers use our guitars for performance using acoustic guitar amplifiers or powered speakers.
I hope that helps.

Elsiddamn, that's pretty rad! my cheapy transistor amp (guitar amp, not for hifi speakers or anything) broke recently, but its sound was kind of flat anyway, and using the headphone output was weird, which is a big part of why i've just used my electric unplugged. a wee box like that which could probably fit in a pocket might be ideal for when i do want to practise with a bigger sound!

david.zamoraIf you notice the recording of the video has the input volume very high and well placed mics. Listen to the birds chirping in the background, when the guy unzips the carry case and the sound from the guitar is obviously awesome on the recording but totally misleading. I really want a smaller guitar for camping/glamping that's loud enough to accompany my singing like around the campfire.

MatrolenYou may want to look at the Martin Backpacker. It has a small chamber, and easily produces volume sufficient for campfire songs.
