Sixty7flhUke here. Makala Waterman since it's plastic and can be knocked around a little.

Sixty7flhCan use an amp or needs an amp? Seems like it can use an amp. The woman at the barber shop in my building uses one in between customers. Her big complaint is that like other travel guitars she has tried, it is hard to keep in tune. Not a player - yet. Kind of waiting to retire from the Army.

Sixty7flhHey Everyone - this is a bit of a crossover item for Pro Audio and Ultralight. It is a high quality guitar with a very small footprint. It plays and sounds like an electric guitar when not plugged in to an amp. The advantage of this is that you can play it anytime without disturbing your neighbor, whether you're on a long train ride, sharing a room, or playing late at night. The drawback, of course, is that you'll need a small amp to play for a group of friends. Small battery-powered amps are easy to find and not expensive, and could even be made into a poll in Pro Audio.
For playing around the campfire, you might consider a small-body acoustic like the Traveler Acoustic AG-105 or Martin Backpacker Guitar http://travelerguitar.com/guitars/acoustic/item/traveler-acoustic-ag-105 https://www.martinguitar.com/guitars/backpacker/steel-string-backpacker-guitar/ @Sixty7flh @G-Deuce

G-DeuceI have one of these. It is good for practice when traveling. The strings are loud enough when practicing by yourself, or you can just plug headphones in. It has a piezo pickup. I have also used the small VOX travel amps with a pair of headphones, and it works great with that.
Thoughts on the design: I *have* to use a strap when I play this- the size and placement of the metal bar on the bottom (which is detachable) just don't give me enough control over holding this to play comfortably.
If anyone has any questions about this I'd be happy to answer.

FlyingMonkeyIt might need a mini amp tho as there is nothing to resonate. The loudness is like more than a Fender Strat unplugged but less than a Small Acoustic guitar. But get a Blackstar Fly 3W amp and you're all set as that small amp is pretty loud... its scary loud.

IcywolfeI agree with the unplugged electric analysis. This thing is screaming for (or whispering, as the case may be) a pickup and mini-amp. I'd market this as a travel practice guitar with headphones vs. a 'camp guitar'. This needs a v2.
