lorsungcuYep, Titanium isn't cheap, and I make these in my garage in Iowa, it's not a mass made product from china

Tactical_KeychainsOk, but it _is_ a $50 box cutter. http://www.amazon.com/Stanley-10-175-Homeowners-Retractable-Utility/dp/B00002X207
I carried one of those for years; it does the same thing. I feel like this represents the same attitude that Apple spoke to when they shamed people for using "old computers". There's something good, and maybe it's becoming special, about being able to find something you love about a product that WAS mass produced, simply because it works the way you need it to. Not everything needs to be a special snowflake. The number of people that need what is essentially a designer box cutter is actually zero. While I appreciate that you probably have skills that 99/100 people will never have, I've got to wonder if maybe there's a better use for them.
Edit: I should note that you making them in your garage does not mean they aren't mass produced. You are using the same techniques and technologies that any company building this same item would; the fact that you're using exotic material and not doing it in a traditional factory setting doesn't change the fact that you really are just slowly mass-producing them. Let's not pretend that you're whittling these by hand while sitting in a rocking chair on your porch.

lorsungcuYou can say it "does the same thing" but this is ultimately much smaller, whether or not that deserves a $45 mark-up from what you've given as an example is up to the person purchasing it. You don't need to give your drawn out explanation why people should just use the 5 dollar version; you also really don't know the number of people who 'need what is essentially a designer box cutter', I'm assuming you'll have a rough estimate of that after the drop. If something like that irks you, then guess what... you don't have to buy it. Your criticisms, while valid, mean nothing if people are buying them and have no complaints about the product or the price.

lorsungcuSo you quoted from a company that had to put nets around their buildings to stop people from jumping off due to terrible work conditions?
If you have nothing nice to say, I will respectfully ask you to stop trolling my drop. I'm sure others will chime in as well.
This drop puts food in my families mouth, and I believe your trying to take their fork away. There is absolutely no point for your negative comments here. There are 160 TUKK's available here, 48 of which have already sold in just a few hours of the start, I guess that's more than your "zero".

lorsungcuYou've been on Massdrop since 2014 man... I expect you've realized there's a $5 version of everything on here. Nobody's buying anything on MD because they NEED it.
Massdrop exists because people people are into (borderline obsessed) specific hobbies, companies like tactical keychains exist to supply what these people want.

DEADFOXIt doesn't irk me. I just don't think it's necessarily good, and hoped that the guy actually doing the thing would have a response that would help me understand who this benefits and how. This is luxury beyond the norm. This is diamonds on the soles of your shoes level consumerism. This is a keychain you can't put in your pocket because it will physically harm you. I feel like that is contributing to this notion that simply because something is mass produced, it shouldn't have the same value as something someone made in their garage, which is downright silly, if not harmful in the long run (in terms of resources used, etc). Given the option to buy something pretty, people will probably buy it. If I had $50 sitting here that I felt I could live without, I'd probably buy one. It *is* pretty. That doesn't mean it's something society should accept as necessary or appropriate, that's all I'm saying. Same with Apple saying "If you have a PC that's ~5 years old, that's sad and you should buy a new one from us." That's dangerous.

Tactical_KeychainsJust trying to have a conversation. No one is trying to starve your family, and that kind of hyperbole doesn't add anything to the conversation. I'm not trolling; please show the same amount of respect you're asking for. Sorry your feelings got hurt, but the best place to talk about this is here. If you want to respond to my criticism, please do - name calling and hyperbole really don't change my mind.

lorsungcuHonestly, what good has came from your comments other than turning people away from this drop? If you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all. Right? Didn't your parents teach you that? I had a look at your comments and this isn't the first time you have trolled people's drops. It's disrespectful and brings nothing constructive to this drop. There are $75 bottle openers on Massdrop and other sites, I've seen $400 Animal bottle openers on Instagram. It's a niche EDC community, and if you aren't apart of it, please stick to what you are apart of.

lorsungcuSo I completely understand you, don't get me wrong... However your first comments come off really abrasive, if you didn't get the response you were hoping for that's probably why. If you don't understand who/how this will benefit someone, then there's a good chance it won't benefit you... I personally work in a place that isn't terribly knife friendly regardless of how small and unthreatening it looks like, this is very friendly looking and very much looks like a tool. It would be strange to carry around just a standard box cutter and a standard box cutter is MUCH larger than this I really think you have to see it next to one to compare. It also uses #11 hobby blades which are much smaller and more precise than your standard box cutter, offering scalpel like precision. You can go ahead and pick up your standard hobby blade holder/pen for $5 again but you wouldn't really be able to carry it around. Moving onto it being dangerous to carry around in your pocket... It really isn't, I do it myself, it should be pretty obvious why he as the maker of these would say this (read, covering your ass). The #11 hobby blade is extremely sharp and I would give anyone the same forewarning before carrying them. Finally moving onto the luxury aspect, you may be correct but people have the extra money sometimes and sometimes they want something nice that they can carry... As an example the Rexford RUT is a similar concept and costs around twice as much as this. You really have to feel it, use it and I think you would understand... Even if you don't, you don't have to understand there's people who wouldn't spend this amount of money on most things, or there's people who would never have a use for something like this and you know what? I wouldn't expect them to buy them. But I would guess that many people on MD would like them and would buy them... We'll wait to the end of the drop to see if I'm correct.

DEADFOXThanks again Deadfox, that was well written! Last drop had 200 and sold out in 4 days, so Massdrop came back to me and asked to re-run the drop again as soon as possible. I did my best, but could only get 160 made this month. Thanks again for the support x2.

lorsungcuFor sure, doesn't seem like you're trying to troll here. You saw something you thought was silly, said as much, folks responded with dramatic language, now you're responding with dramatic language ("literally stab you" is a bit of a stretch, carried this in my pocket for the last few months, no such problems) , it'll go on for a few more posts then someone will stop caring, average day on the internet.
I replied to your post because I'm tired of seeing pointless negativity derail otherwise useful drop discussion. Next time you see something on Massdrop that you feel has crossed the foolishness line, go post about it on Facebook, don't clutter the discussion section with arguing for the sake of arguing.

WillI'm not arguing for the sake of arguing. What about anything I've said made you think that? The guy producing this can't recommend you carry it in your pocket, because it really might actually stab you. It's not a stretch, that's the manufacturer's recommendation.

lorsungcuI was a sceptic before as well, and i believe that when you are sceptic about something, you should try it out and Experience in order to judge. The magnetic retraction system, flawless. Machining, flawless, execution of a well thought out design, again, flawless. The fact he says "do not carry in the pocket" is because America is a silly country, you can sue everyone for everything. Thats just a business man being carefull. The whole EDC market is a world apart, the guys who can afford buy $400 titanium salt and peper shakers, $1-2K knives, $300 pens and yes, $50,- boxcutters. If you would see the inside of the TUKK, all the milling that was done on it. It's very well done! It's a pain for your tools to machine titanium and tools aren't cheap, as well as titanium. Then you have the labor to program, machine, clean up and assemble all Parts. And then he still needs to make a living out of it. I think personally $50 aint much, but if you can't afford or are not willing to spend this money then just move on. What's the use of such comments. Just 2 cents from a happy TUKK owner

lorsungcuI have a nice Stanley box cutter/knife combo that I got at WalMart ages ago. I used that forever in my warehouse work. That thing is as big and probably heaver and definitely more money. I kept it in the extra pockets of my carpenter shorts all the time. I don't use it anymore. It is in my desk drawer at work. The TUKK replaced that combo I had. Does it do everything the Stanley did? No way, but it does most of it, it is lighter, more durable, and has easily replaceable blades. Cost more? But worth it in the long run because you won't be buying some jancky, cheap thing that will need to be replaced every few months because it is cheap and doesn't hold up well. This is supported 1000% by the ONE guy making them. That big company doesn't care about their stuff as much as he does about his products. Don't be a hater, this is good stuff. Better to complain about other products that are cheap and are not quality.

lorsungcuLuxury? It is only $50 or so dollars. Nobody is forcing anyone to buy or need anything on here. There are drops on here that I think are WAY crazy, but I am not the customer they are looking for. I don't go into their comment section and lament about how crazy and overpriced their stuff is. Somebody will want it and if it is offered, people will buy. No crime in that. Just try to keep it positive.

lorsungcuYup. It's expensive for a box cutter. But it's a really cool box cutter! Small, lightweight, attractive, useful, & safe! I've been carrying a TUKK in my pocket since I got it on the initial Kickstarter offering (delivered early btw). I've not cut myself once & I literally use it several times per day. I'm not slamming you for stating an opinion at all. It certainly has sparked some lively & well stated praise by actual owners/users of this product. Many have become loyal customers of Tactical Keychain/ Brad & eagerly await what he might dream up next. I count myself in that group! Cheers!
