Either setup would work. I don't have the Pluto, so I can't comment on how it sounds compared to the Mani.

Thanks :) I hope you can answer this question for me though: I currently have the ART DJPRE II and my turntable is the U-Turn Orbit Basic with the Grado Blue1 cartridge. I've recently found out that I need an amp if I want to listen to my turntable through my headphones (I have powered speakers). Should I go with: 1. this U-turn preamp and get the Schiit Magni2 Uber amp 2. the Schiit Mani preamp and get the Magni2 uber amp.

There's a bit more than that to a phono preamp. The amplification is non-linear, i.e. lower frequencies get amplified more than high frequencies do. This reverses the opposite curve used when the disc is recorded, so it's both an amplifier and a bit of a decoder. The ability to accurately follow the RIAA response curve is a significant factor in the quality of the gear.

I have the Schiit Mani and there is a definite improvement from the DJPRE II -- much better bass extension. If this is comparable to the Mani, then the answer is "yes".

A preamp essentially increases or amplifies the signal before going to an actualy amplifier/receiver. For older phonographs, this is typically necessary because they don't have enough amplification for the receiver and even if you turn the receiver to max volume, you won't hear much. Newer phonographs have built in pre amps and do not need an additional pre amp.

Agree with Noldir...the discount should be off of the $89 actual U-Turn MSRP. The shipping in the US is OK, as it would still be $10 from U-Turn.
Compared to the ART DJPRE II Phono Preamplifier, will I notice a significant increase in sound if I get this one?

Just like other audio gear. Start at a low price point, work your way up to breaking the bank. Must resist the urge. But oh so many vinyl records sitting undisturbed for so long now.
Sorry, but what is a preamp?

It's also more than 3 times the cost.

It's true ,I hate seeing you guys buying cheap phono stage and saying analog doesn't sound as good as digital and gave up on analog.which is cheaper buy it once for 3 bills or keep buying and buying and buying and gave up.
While I'm not interested in this particular drop, I'm glad to see a phono preamp on massdrop.
There we go. I was like, what's with all the pictures of just the sides? lol
I'm using the Emotiva XPS-1 which is better than either.
How do these compare to the Schiit Mani?
Does anyone know if it would work at 230v/50hz power?

It seems that you will need to get a locally provided wall wart that has a 9VAC with the proper connector.
On the U-Turn site itself it's 89 dollar. So why the 99 dollar MSRP? Also the shipping kills this for anyone not in the US

Is international shipping even available for this drop? I'm in Australia and I only see a shipping price to the US.

Strange, not anymore. Shipping to the Netherlands was 33 dollar. I think they removed it because there's probably only a us adapter included
