Ultimate Ears 900 Audiophile IEM
Ultimate Ears 900 Audiophile IEM
High-End IEM 101
The pinnacle of portable audio used to be Custom molded, multi armature, IEMS. Customs have a perfect fit since they're molded to your ear (you go to an audioologist and pay them to pour silicon in your ear), and the multi armature speaker design means there are lots of little speakers in each earpiece (up to 16 on some models), each specialized to produce a specific range of the audible spectrum. The benefit is audio said to be superior to the highest-end full size headphones. Sadly these custom IEMs run you anywhere from $600 to $2000 (plus audioologist mold fees) and there's no almost no resale value since they're custom.
Custom Architecture, Universal Fit
Lucky for you, there's a new sheriff in town. Ultimate Ears has broken the mold (pun intended) with the universal fit, quad armature, UE900. Universally well received upon its release, the UE900 has wowed listeners the world over with its thoughtful design, staggering isolation (-26db, you cant hear yourself clapping), and custom level sound. After dozens of five star head-fi reviews, what more is there to say?
High Quality From Head to Toe
Audiophile companies have a bad habit of producing incredible products, but neglecting the little things. This is not the case with Ultimate Ears. The UE900 ships with ear tips ranging from extra extra small through large made from silicon or Comply memory foam (normally an aftermarket upgrade that'll cost you about $15), a hard case with magnetic closure (it has an internal clip to hold your 1/4in adapter and two false tip mounts to hold your replacement tips in place), and two detachable braided cables (one with iPhone controls and one without). Everything about this IEM is intentional and purpose driven.
