Everything I'm about to say is based on the assumption that these particular deckboxes are identical in construction to the land series boxes UG offers. I got my hands on some of those during the playmat bundle drop, so I can only really describe them instead. Because the descriptions on UG's website look identical, I have to conclude that the Court of the Dead boxes are the same boxes with new art. Anyway, compared to the standard 80+ double-sleeved boxes from Legion, the UG products are pretty similar. Sort of. They both have the same capacity and are seemingly composed of the same materials. The boxes have a similar feel with similar size and even similar card dividers. The major difference lies in the way the deckboxes close. Legion boxes have a large cover with strong, white velcro. The UG boxes instead have a small cover that closes naturally using what they describe as a "self-locking" system. In reality, the UG boxes remind me more of Ultra Pro boxes because of this closure. The self-locking system is somewhere in between a UP 80 card box and a UP standard toploader. Maybe some people don't like velcro, but I personally far prefer the Legion style to the self-closing boxes. I have experience with Ultra Pro boxes cracking, bending, and generally becoming a nuisance during use. That being said, I still feel such boxes are well worth it if you can get them for cheap. This is doubly true if those boxes have special art that you can flaunt at the play table. So, if you love this artwork and are happy to use a simple box like those from Ultra Pro, this is probably a solid product for you. Alternatively, if you are like me and would just prefer the added strength of Legion velcro, you might want to pass here. As a final note, I'd like to point out that I've had a lot of experience with the art on Legion boxes becoming scuffed during rigorous transport. If the materials in these UG boxes really are the same, I'd expect they too could become damaged over time. I haven't owned the boxes long enough to be sure though. Still, if you want to preserve the art, it may be worth looking into some sort of box storage option, just in case. (Maybe Ultimate Guard's new Arkhive box? XP)
