Could this quilt be used on the ground, sans hammock? Also, does anyone know the packed dimensions?

B3nHoll3yBoth of my UGQ quilts came in the same 7x12" 'Tough Sack' stuff sack. My quilt is a bit shorter than this one, but should compress to same dimensions.

AntneeNope. Under quilts are designed to go under your hammock. If you want a top quilt, or "blanket " , get a top quilt.

B3nHoll3yNope. Under quilts are designed to be under quilts, provide insulation under you while in a hammock. If you want a "blanket" get a top quilt.

B3nHoll3yI think the answer is a little more nuanced than yes/no. This could be used as a blanket, but it would make a good one? It would be on the slim/short side and I'd say maybe appropriate for someone 5'6" or shorter. Most top quilts would be 10" wider and 10" longer, or more. You'd also have some extra cordage for hanging that you could ignore, or simply cut off to save weight if you don't plan on using it as an underquilt. And you might have to play around with it a bit to figure out how to gather it at your foot and around your neck for maximum warmth. So can it be used as a top quilt / blanket. Yes. Should it be? Up to you if the disadvantages outweigh the advantages. @Antnee @Vajtagal - sound about right?

DannyMilksNope. It will not have a zippable and cinch up able foot box unless you alter it. Same with neck cinch and snap. No way to keep it in close in cooler weather. No buckles to attach to pad to keep in heat either. Unless you alter it. Alter, as in sew in these alterations. as an under quilt it isn't wide enough to cover you properly. EEs smallest width is 50 inches, suggested for the slimmest amongst us. Sure car camping maybe in mild weather but anything else won't recommend.

VajtagalHuh? Of course this could be used on the ground and will provide warmth, it's kind of absurd to state otherwise. Does it excel at that or compare to the features of a true top quilt? Probably not but that is a different conversation.
B3enholle3y... if you are asking if this would work as a blanket in a pinch... absolutely yes. If you are asking if you should buy this over a top-quilt to be used as a top-quilt, or over a sleeping bag... probably not.

SantiagoDracoNot absurd in the least. I'm as ul and dual/ triple duty as they come. However, the warmth a uq would provide as a "blanket" wouldn't cut it on any of my trips. It's warmth wouldn't be enough to keep me warm enough to be safe. As a "blanket" perhaps camping in a campground 10 feet from the car on a high r value pad in warmer weather. Other than that, wouldn't trust my comfort / safety to it.
