I have the Black Diamond Z-poles and love how lightweight and foldable they are... also fixed size. I'm not clear on how packable the UD ones are, though. Do they fold like Z-poles?
SF_UltrarunnerNope, fixed fixed. I handled some at a ski shop in Breck. They are super light as expected, and the initial impression was that they had nice vibration damping on planting. Not super stiff, but I'm not heavy on poles so I think they'll work for me.
These poles look great, and they are highly recommended by Skurka himself (see https://andrewskurka.com/2018/review-ultimate-direction-fk-trekking-poles/).
Seriously considering buying them: I've got fixed size ones by Gossamer Gear, but they are a bit flimsy -and lighter.
Just wondering if someone got some experience with the tips: Skurka said he liked the poles very, very much, but reported some trouble with the tips, which they told him it would be fixed for the production version. Would love to have feedback about that, will buy if that's fixed.
pagulloI've had the poles for about a year and a half. I had one metal tip sheer off and another snap at them midpoint of the plastic tip. For the sheered tip they replaced the whole pole. I'm looking to personally replace the snapped tip now.
