Got my scans done at UE HQ today. It was a great experience, not only was the scan painless and quick, got to test out universals of all the ciems but got a backstage tour. Totally worth it if it's an option.

djfluffkinsI'm going tomorrow (or today if you're reading this 5 minutes from now). Google says it's a 5.5 hour drive (each way), but I'm going to see if I can shave an hour off that :)

AnonymousMassHopefully it's worth the trek, I imagine you probably could have spent less getting impressions done versus the cost of gas for the journey.

wild_oneIt took almost 2 tanks of gas exactly...so about 35 gallons of fuel. Probably cheaper to have had them done locally but having UE do it directly speeds up the production process.
My joints arent happy right now :)
Exit: and UE also does 3d scanning instead of silicone...so should be more accurate impression.

So I really focused on the UERMs and the UE 18s as far as testing goes, I demoed the 11s as well, but didn't spend too much time on them. I only had my iPhone with me, I specifically took my X5s out of my bag for some reason before my trip forgetting I was going here first.
Generally speaking the wisdom of the internet seemed to prevail, the sound signature of the UERM is definitely flat/neutral vs the V shaped signature of the UE18s. The real standout in my opinion, was just how defined the bass was on these. They are very clear and not muddy like you get with others (both IEM and over hear [closed or open]) I can tell that the highs are defined but not so much that I'd call them tinny.
I probably spent about 20 minutes of listening time on both switching between a variety of music, afterwards I felt very confident about the purchase and that I'd be satisfied with how they sound. One of the reviews from parttimeaudiopile put it best, these aren't neutral, but for most people, neutral isn't exactly how they want to listen to the music anyways. So, I can see the difference, it's a personal choice, and I think I made the best choice for me. Can't wait to get MINE in my ears.
