Also curious if this drop uses the Fitkit talked about on the UE site or whether an audiologist appointment is necessary. Answering this question is make or break for me.

JorgeGortex“Ear Impressions & Ordering
Custom in-ear monitors are like custom suits. They need to be tailored to your body. So as part of the ordering process, you'll need to visit an audiologist for ear impressions. Then, you’ll need to mail those impressions to the Ultimate Ears lab (address will be provided). The vendor must receive tracking info on the impressions within 3 weeks of the drop completing, or the offer will be canceled and refunded—no exceptions or extensions.”

JorgeGortexI wouldn't be dissuaded by the custom mould requirement. Most insurances cover the cost of an annual hearing exam, & then it's a simple add-on charge ($50-$100) for the moulds to be done. I've had UE Pro11s for 7 years now, & wouldn't trade them for anything else (well, maybe the UE Lives!). There is no comparison between generic IEMs & custom-moulded IEMs (CIEMs); generic IEMs can't compare or perform at the same level. CIEMs will have better fit which will provide a cleaner soundstage, less ambient noise being heard, better efficiency of frequency reproduction (sealed chamber will allow the drivers to hit at their designed performance), & will be WAY more comfortable for you to wear (you won't have to cram them into your ear to get a good seal & you won't experience ear pain when wearing them for an extended amount of time).
If you're on the fence about getting these, or unsure of the audiologist topic, give them a call & ask for a local recommendation. They are a close-knit group & won't guide you down something you won't love. They've made 3 different adjustments to mine in the last 7 years (i.e. I dropped them & a driver came lose, balance check, fitment adjustment because my ears physically changed) & they only charged me shipping each time.
You can find their phone number on this page: http://pro.ultimateears.com/customizer/#!/id/164
Hope this makes you feel better about your decision. If you end up getting them, I hope you love them/UE as much as I have/do.
