I'm confused by the driver count. In one paragraph is says 6BA drivers plus 2True Tone drivers, but in the specs it states only 6BA drivers. Unfortunately, UE's website is not. much help either, with no information on the "True Tone" drivers.

Boyce89976I agree with you, their new website & marketing team aren't doing the UE Pro Custom brand/products any favors. Trust me, their products & their continued customer support after purchase is worth the investment (even if you pay full price!).
Here's a couple links that might help. I've had UE Pro11s for 7 years now, couldn't be happier with them, their performance, & the support from the company. I've tried tons of other brands & formats (CIEM, IEM, OTE), & I'll be a UE customer for life. Lifetime warranty & rebalance! I'd buy these immediattely, if I didn't already have a set.
Each custom in ear monitor (CIEM) has 3 drivers for a total of 6 drivers, two of the six are "true tone" which is what they're essentially calling their dedicated tweeter drivers; their marketing team must think calling the drivers as woofers, mid-range, & tweeters is too old fashioned for them.
Q&A about the 18+ Launch, answers "True Tone" (marketing buzzword for balanced & dedicated high-freq driver): http://stories.ultimateears.com/why-ultimate-ears/introducing-the-ue-18-plus-pro/
Best "offical" description link: http://pro.ultimateears.com/ultimate-ears-pro-18-plus
When all else fails, call them (not sure if I'm allowed to post phone numbers, so I'm posting a link to their page that has their phone number): http://pro.ultimateears.com/customizer/#!/id/164
I don't work/have not worked for Logitech or UE. I am purely an audiophile that fell in love with UE & personally believe they have been (& remain) the best IEMs on the market. If you do decide to get some, make sure you get your impressions done by a recommended audiologist, or else you will always have problems with them. Again, call UE & ask for a recommendation of a local audiologist.
Hope this helps someone/anyone that's on the fence about these.

Brou4164Thanks, but now I’m even more confused. The drop leads me to believe there are 6 drivers per ear + the True Tone drivers For a total of 8 per ear. Are you saying there are only 3 drivers per ear including the True Tone drivers?

Boyce89976Because it is stated in the write-up. I also included a picture. It has 6 total drivers. 2 for the lows, 2 for mids, plus the 2 True Tone drivers for the highs.

rantngOk, but read what you quoted: 6BA drivers PLUS 2 True Tone drivers... The way it’s written makes it sound like 8 per ear, which is why simply quoting the text I was referring to wasnt much help. Never mind the fact that the naming convention - 18+ (as with almost every other top CIEM) suggests 9 drivers per ear.

Boyce89976Good question, sorry I wasn't clear. UE didn't do a good job of articulating this point either. Ultimately, I'd just call them for absolute certainty; they're extremely nice.
Yes, I'm fairly certain that the 18+ has a total of 6 drivers; each channel (left earpiece, right earpiece) has 3 drivers (woofer, mid-range, & tweeter). UE has decided to call their tweeter driver as "True Tone".
When you look at the Technical Specs on the 18+ page, it literally has this description confirming the number: "6 balanced armatures and 4 passive crossovers " http://pro.ultimateears.com/ultimate-ears-pro-18-plus

Boyce89976I understand the confusion. I admit many of the write-ups don't provide much information; try getting some information on the Chi-fi IEM drops. It would be less confusing if it were worded this way: This 18+ Pro is built with six proprietary balanced armatures - divided into four frequency bands, plus two True Tone drivers dedicated to the high frequency band.
The UE18+ Pro has a total of 6 drivers per ear. I'm not sure how UE comes up with their model names, the 18 in the name does suggest either 9 or 18(!) drivers per ear if you follow the normal naming convention. As with most of the drops, I would suggest using outside sources to gather more information.

rantng18 means it's their 18th design
The naming scheme all dates back to the days of Jerry Harvey (He's the one who pioneered CIEM for stage use and was working in UE before they split). The 18+ means it's UE's 18th design, but refined.
Also, if you see the general sound signature from JH to UE, there has been some similarities. UE11 with JH11, JH5 and UE5, UE TF10 and JH Trifi. These were the designs JH developed for UE last time, and then took it as well as refined it when he started JH Audio.

rantngIt has nothing to do with drivers count. Didn't you notice UE9/UE11 with odd number in model names?

ToxicWhich is why we said “conventional” naming. @malvinvnv has already explained the UE18 designation.
To be more accurate, a more apt word would be "current" as UE/Jerry Harvey did create the first CIEM.

Boyce899766 drivers per ear that is "divided" into four frequency bands, plus two True Tone drivers dedicated to the high frequency band.
So it makes up 6 drivers.
I've one of these (The universal fit model that I got here on Massdrop a few months ago) and they sound so good. Custom fit would even be appealing to me personally. But already have the universal fit.

Boyce89976The UE18 contains 6 drivers per side, two of which are the true tone drivers.
