If you get the copper version, dont drop it! If it lands on its tip, it can easily deform, so the tip won’t pass through the hole. Also, when deployed, the top of the bolt is exposed in the clip hole. It’s a minor but niggling design detail that annoys me more than it should.

AlanIsobeHere you can see the gap between the top of the bolt and the top of the slide.

The shiny part is where the tip got flattened when the pen was dropped. I had to drill out the hole to make the pen useable again.

BeardySo you gave it one star because of a minor design detail? Or is it because you dropped a soft metal pen and it bent at its weakest point?

tenspinyaThing is, I don’t even remember dropping it. Copper is a soft metal, and I can accept that issue. I still think folks should know about it, beca there is a very real possibility that the pen won’t work when you need it to. Mostly, I rated it based on the design detail. It is the key feature of the pen, and it bothers me that stuff can easily get in there, or get caught on the ‘J’, if the pen ends up in my bag with the the tip deployed.
You may may like it, and that’s great. By all means, give it 5 stars If you like. I mainly looked at what differentiates it from a Pilot or a Bic or even a Parker Jotter and found myself a bit let down. I’ve other bolt action pens at many price points that have been great.

BeardyHey you made some valid points about the issues you have with the bolt action. Thats fair enough, I thought your main issue was with the tip bending. I have dropped my pens too many times to count and copper and even bronze dont like that very much is all. Still debating if I want this or not but thank you for the detailed response

tenspinyaThe brand's name is Urban Survival Gear and the pen is sold as a buy-it-for-life EDC object; if they're using a soft metal in a slim design and it deforms easily … all I can say is that I'm glad for the warning. There's nothing wrong with delicate pens but the presentation and branding shown here clearly set different expectations.

dongleWell the pen is called tiscribe bolt. The company's name is urban survival gear. And you can pick which material you want your pen to be made out of. Those are the facts, anything else is subjective.

BeardyI have a pen very similar to this one with the same issue. I just use the back end of a drill bit that fits into the deformed opening and carefully performe circular motions until I am back to true round. On the upside, I have become more careful not to drop it. This is however not a design error but just the nature of the beast. It happens with my stainless steel version as well. Simply a function of material thickness, weight and gravity in general.
